All the Deaf be tween the apes of eight and twenty-five, ot sound physical and mental constitutions, will be admitted and provided with in struction, board, lodging, medicine and medical attend o at the expense of the Institution; and all those in such indigent circumistances as shall appear by a certis cate of any member of the police jary of the parish, or mayor of the city, where the reside, to render such aid necessary, will also be furnished with clothing and travel ing expenses to the Institution. The In stitutid0 also afords a jiechanid part meut in which instruction is given in such trades as may be best suited to render the pupils self-sustaining citisens. The educa tion of the deaf is of peculiar importance to them and to the State; but from want ot information, indigence or other reasons on r the part of parents, less than half in the State avail themselves of the privileges adlorded. This is all wrong; hence the Trustees earnestly call the attention of all proper authorities to the duty of seeing that all the deaf in their respective parishes or cities, are informed of the privileges pro vided, and that in cases of indigent circum stances, means be provided for couveying I such to this Institution. Proper provision will be made for both white and coloredl. In case of any deaf known at this Insti 1 tution to be in your city or parish, the names are appended to this letter.
