Hj . ! "WE HAVE NO COMPETITORS" Others Try, But We DO Things 1
SPECIAL LETTER TO THE 5
FARMERS OP CAHRON ?
By Robort II. Stcwnrt, County J
Farm Demonstrator.
I nm now conducting u cam-
paign on the treatment of pota-
tooa to prevent the potato ills-
eases that we have in our sec-
tton of the state. Will mnke J
this practical demonstration for
potato diseases, and also for the ,j
diseases of small grains through- ;
out the two counties. All people
interested in the treatment of j
these diseases notice for an- ,
nouncements that will be made,
as 1 wish to cover the entire ji
field in twelve days. !
As fnrmcra, if wc would reap j
good, satisfactory crops we must J
use every precaution to help in- i
Burc ourselves ngainst the great
number of diseases that attack
our crops. In the case of our (
smaller grains it Is necessary, ;i
absolutely so, to grade our seed
by means of n fanning mill to j
eliminate shrunken and cracked Ji
kernels and all forms of weed
seeds, in case wc have not al- Ji
ready done so from the patch, j
select good medium sized potato j
tubes. J i
Evci'y day now means cither
the saving or1 loss of a great
many thousand tons of water
from the soil on our farms. The
precipitation moisture is much ;
more valuable for our crops than
the Irrigntion water will be, thnt !
will be later applied. I would
advise, therefore, much cultlva-
tion this spring. Don't plough !
one day, and harrow several days
later, but harrow the same day
as ploughed. As to alfalfa land i
I would suggest waiting for a
few days yet until the cold
nlghta have passed, as vigorous J
cultivation exposes the torn
roots.
Just n word or two about J
ploughing. I believe wc, gener-
ally speaking, arc ploughing too
shallow. Plough deep. If you
can get the horsepower plough ,
from ten to twelve indies. '
I wish to co-operate with the
farmers in Carbon and Emery
counties again this year in pro-
moting agriculture. It is my be- '
lief that we have a grand future J
before us, agriculturally speak-
ing, in these two counties, and
na citizens of this section we
must unite in leaving no stone
unturned to build up our homes.
I make mistakes; you make ;
mistakes ; if wc did not wc would
not need any help. Mistaken j
help to make advancement.
I hope this will be an exeep- !
tional year for the people of Eas-
tern Utah and thnt the agrlcul-
turnl conditions will bo much
improved. '
