We have come with the intention of permanently residing at Rocky Bar, and have much faith in its future prosperity and greatness as a gold producing camp. Owing to a multiplicity of duties attending our removal from Moun tain Home we have been unable to devote as much space to mining matter« this week a* we desired, yet we think even this number of the paper of «orne intere«t to thi* community and deserving of kind consideration from every person who has at heart the welfare of of are Rock" Bar Air we ask is a liberal support in' return for our efforts to build up your town by making known to the world the vastness and richness of your developed mines and of tin« hidden treasure only awaiting the touch of capital to startle the world by its immense yied. Politically the Bulletin will be Independent-Democratic— with no "strings" whatever to hamper it— and will advocate statehood for Idaho with a sincere belief that the mining interests will tie greatly henefitted thereby as well as all other sections. Many people in Rocky Bar fully appreciate the advantages to be de rived from the presence and efforts of a good home paper. When the Bulletin presses and material ar rived here last week a number of prominent and solid citizens manifested feelings of welcome by causing anvil salutes loud and l.>n, to h. «1*4. Rocky Bar, the county seat of ; L. railroad, tion of about 1,000 and is 5,375 feet above »ea level. Plater mines were discovered at and around Rocky Bar early in 1862, the working of which lead to the '»««'overy „f gold »»earing quartz veins and from whit h our people now derive their principal support. The gulch diggings proved very rich and at one time the population of the camp numbered thousands. In a few months the best placer dig gings were worked out and then arastras were built and attention a to of of wore yet the best gold producers of ago, turned to the numerous rich quartz leads—the first locations being the Alturas, Elmore, Confederate Star, Idaho, Golden Star and many others of equal note—all of which proved immensely rich, and some of them are Idaho. Up to 1864 the territory now known as Elmore, Uigan and Al Juras counties was under the juris diction of Boise county. Alturas county was formed by the legisla ture of 1863-4, with the county seat located at a point a short distance below Junction Bar and named Esmeralda, but when the appointed officers arrived at Esmeralda they found no houses of any character and consequently proceeded to the in' ♦«*« of Rocky Bar, where by gen up con *« lt the count y Beat wa *; established, and where it remained ised for the 0 of «"til removed by fraud in 1882 to tin« Hailey. Royal Daniels and Frank lusher deserve special mention for the good condition in which they delivered the Bulletin material and house- j hold furniture here. Tliey are care ful and reasonable freighters. The new grade aliovc Lime creek station is a god-send to teamsters and all travelers. Bailey, the road overseer, made a good job of it, and when ho finishes the Ia*use creek grade traveling from here to Wood creek will be magnif.
