Democratic stump speakers and ! Democratic newspapers are making rediculous assertion* about the con- j dition of county finances in order to try to confuse the public mind, ; « favorite dodge with them in or der to try to capture a few vous. If they were honest with the public they could explain that the trouble | with our county finances is due to ! the efforts of the corporations to dodge paying their just share of There i« in round num taxation. hers 1130,000 of county revenue tied up in litigation. Of this there is absolute certainty that the cor porations must pay the regular 'evy, amounting to $90,000. If; J ' , . , this SUI11 were paid in it would le stringency might " exist. The Republican administra lion has prosecuted their claim for , these hac k lax*'« witn the utmost cares in the eid. commissioners lievt whatever It is said the county is cer vigor, lain to win its Had the county neen less active in their duty they might have Cum promised the cases, in which ev**nl liiere would have money in the treasury, and the present «tringencj would not have existed and taxes might have been reduced. This would have been smart politics, would have been looser in The taxpayers long the nowever, run, and it would have been a surrender to the corporations. There are just two factors fighting the Republican administration—the tax-dodging corporations and the Democratic j party. It ought to be an easy matter for the people to figure out where their interests are. Hon. H. H. Taylor, Republican candidate for State Senator, advan- ; ced some very weighty reasons why the Republican legislative! ticket should beeleited. He points out a conceded fact that the next i legislature will be Republican. A| Republican Senator or Représenta- ; live, working with the majority i party, will ke far more influential than one who is with tha minority. In fact in ail legislative bodies, a biil introduced by a minority mem ber, is almost certain of doom if it concerns a matter over which there I be anv contention. Localities in \ Kootenai desiring legislation would I do well to hear this in mind. Dr 1 A. Bishop is the cnly rep resentative from Bonners Ferry on the Republican ticket, but he is a 1 representative that does credit to the locality. The Doctor has filled the office of Coroner for the past ; two years and has discharged his duties faithfully and at the mini mum of cost to the county. He is a man of clean chavactei, frank and outspoken in bis opinions, and strictly attentive to businese. Here at home he will receive a great vote and we cordially recommend his candidacy to voters throughout the j county. Edwin Doubt, the Republican j nominee foi Sheriff - , is a sure winner in this eleciion, but it would be a deserving tribute to a most deserv-| ing and honorable citizen to make the vote as large as possible. We all know Edwin Doust. We all know that he has never occupied a position of trust that be has not fillea faithfully and with honesty. The old chestnut taut be will ap point this or that man deputy is cowardly and will he resented by all who know Ed Doust. He will go into the office tree and untram-! meled to a degree never before known in the politics of Kootenai county. Aitkk all has been said about the Mormon question, the fact stands out in bold relief that the ever only anti-po^ gamy legislation «» auled ln Idaho waB Republican le 8 ielatlon * The Republicans are; as much opposed to polygamy as an y Democrat dare be.
