port for duty.

— Mrs. Wm. Hart went to Spo
kane Tuesday night, accompanied
by her son Chartes,, to attend the
graduating exercises of the Spo
kane High school. Her daughter,
Miss May Hart, is a member of the
graduating class.

•—The prospect of a liquor famine
was materially relieved this week
by the arrival at the Club of the
largest cask of whiskey that ever
came to ■ onuers Ferry. William
Hart, the proprietor, states that it
contained 321 gallons and weighed
3089 pounds. It was shipped from
a bonded warehouse, and is high
grade goods.

— W. F. Jones returned Wednes
day frem Wisconsin, where he had
been on business. He reports a
heavy snow fall in that state, ami
says the mercury registered 27 be
low zero while he was there.
— Herbert McNamara had the
misfortune to break his leg, above
the knee, while coasting, lust Wed
nesday. Dr. E. E. Fry was called
to attend the case. The patient
is getting along as well as could be
expected.

— The railroads arc having more
or less tronblc with snow. Several
wroc-s are reported this week on
the Great Northern. The only one
very serious was the wreck of the
east hound local freight Wednes
day night. It struck a snow slide
just cast of Newport and the en
gine and several cars went down
the bank, almost into the Pend d'
Oreille River. No one was hurt.
—Thos. A. Hooker went to Rath
drum Thursday on business at the
county seat, returning yesterday.
— E. S. Moore, the popular sales
man for T. J. Hollinger, went to
Spokane on Wednesday, to order
goods for Ilollinger's department
store.
