CALDWELL ANOTHER FINE HORSE FOR IDAHO We find the following in the Concord Sun, Contra Costa county, California: Mr. John Riggs Coon of Morgan Terrltorry, took his departure on Wednesday, the 14th 'inst., for Idaho. He takes with him a fine young stal lion, Paris Boy Jr., which he purchased from Silverio Soto for $1,000. The stallion is a dark brown, 16 hands inches high, weighs fully 1,600 gounds, sired by Paris Boy, a very superior Norman who took the first premium at the San Jose fair, State fair and Con tra Costa fair three years ago. The pedigree runs as follows: Paris Boy Jr. sired by Paris Boy; 1st dam by Belmont; 2d dam by Billy Chatam, he by Cracker; 3J dam by St. Louis, he by Grey Eagle; 4th dam by Bertrard, he by Sir Archer. Idaho will have a stallion equal to the most promising in Califor nia, a pronounced thoroughbred in all its actions. It is the intention of Mr. Coon to visit an uncle—Hon. Henry C. Riggs, who has been a resident of Ida ho about 20 years. This gentleman is a horseman and will be remembered by many old Pacific coasters as a pioneer livery and stage man, and it is at his instance that his nephew, Mr. Coon, visits Idaho with his splendid and noted horse. "Morgan Territory" mentioned above is a large tract of land in Diab lo, Contra Costa county, owned by Jerry Morgan, a brother-in-law of Hon. H. C. Riggs. And the Portland Rural Spirit, under the head of "A Slashing Good One," has this to say of the horse; During the week Mr. J. R. Coon, of California, a nephew of H. C. Riggs, of Falk's Store, I.T., passed through this city on his way to Idaho with Paris Boy Jr., a bay stallion five years old, by imported Paris Boy, No. 368; dam a Hambletonian mare. This young horse stands 17 hands high and weighs 1,600 pounds, and for style and action his equal would be hard to find. He will be placed in the stud soon after arriv ing at his new home. Mr. Coon says that Mr. Riggs intimated to him by let ter the sort of a horse that be believed would suit that country, and asked our judgment as to how near ho had come to Mr. Riggs' idea. If Paris Boy, Jr., judging from his build and style, fai k to produce the very sort of horses that is now in demand, then we shall say that the dams were surely at fault. He will certainly be of much value to a country like the one to which he is now going. Then L B Lindsey, a former resident of Boise, now of Portland, and who stands at the head of the horse profes sion in the northwest, thus writes of the horse : "Paris Boy" is a very fine horse, and just the one you want up in that coun try to breed for all work; and I believe you will get many fine carriage horses from him, a class of animals that al ways sell readily for large prices. When the railroad is finished I will visit my old friends in Idaho. GOOD WORDS. 8Uru City Avalanche. Hon. P. A. Regan, who returned from Boise City on Sunday last, in forms us that while gone be visited Caldwell, on The O. S. L. R. R., near Boise River. The town is being built up rapidly with good substan tial frame buildings, and has quite a lively appearance. While there ho met R. E. Strahorn and W. J. Cuddy. The former gentlemen is manager cf the Idaho Land Improvement Comp any, while the latter naft^td gentle man will commence the 'jrkblication of The Tribune, at an early day. A large canal is being constructed by the Land Improvement Co., which di verts water from Boise River at a point about seven miles above Cald well. It will probably be on the table lands nntil it Snake R'.ver. The oanal will continued reaches carry water enough to irrigate millions cf acres of land, and will cover an im mense amount of fine agricultural soil lying between the point of di vergence with Boise River and Snake River. A bridge for public use is be ing bnilt across Boise River near Caldwell, with an excellent grade to and from the stream. It is thought that the people of Caldwell will build a road from this side of Snake River over the low divide to Suoker Creek, in order to give people in Jordan Valley and Suoker Creek who desire to trade with Caldwell, a good thor oughfare to and from that place. A survey is now being made from Cald well to Boise for a branch which will probably be built certain circumstances. Mr. was very much pleased with his vis it, and with the people whom met He thinks that if there is to be any very considerable town on the line of the O. S. L. in Idaho, that fc^ldwell will be the place. BaJI Like Tribune. ■' F. Aacotte, the general manager road, under Regan he cf the Rocky Mountain Bell Tele phone Company, came djwn from Idaho a few daye ego. He succeed ed during the past week in complet ing negotiations for the establish ment of a telephone system in Boise City apd in the new town cf Caldwell, and a connecting link between the two towns. He says that Caldwell has a bright future before it, and that. Judging from the enterprise exhibited by its citizens, it la bound to make a good location. —Scott W. Terry, the enterprising young contractor from Nebraska, be gan work by moonlight the other night on a neat little cottage on Payette ave nue. —Lost, last night, a gold ring with haavy white stone setting. A liberal reward will bo paid for its return to the freight depot. G. W. Wootan will build an ice house soon and put up 230 tons for next sea son's demands.
