Political Advertising To The Voters of Latah County I am a candidate for re election to the office of Sheriff on the Repub lican ticket. I have held this office for nearly two years, and submit that my record justifies my candid acy for another term. In performing my official duties I have gone on the assumption that all of the laws should be impartial ly enforced. I have honestly tried to do this and have played no fav orities. Any Sheriff who tries to enforce the laws necessarily incurs great opposition on the part of those who have been arrested, their friends and others who naturally are in sympathy with law viola tions. The great body of the voters of this county believe in law en forcement. I submit that my record for law enforcement entitles me to the support of the law-abiding people of the county, and I ask that my record be investigated. My office, in co-operation with the prosecuting attorney's office, has been the means of collecting more than $4200.00 in fines for liquor law violations, and more than $2000.00 in fines for the violation of various other laws. These sums were col lected without the expense of trials, and the county treasury has been enriched to that extent. JOHN L. WOODY. To the Electors of Latah County, Idaho 1 take this opportunity of asking your support at the General election on November 2nd, 1920. Tor neai iy two years past have held this position and hereby request that you be the judges as to whether the laws of the State of Idaho have been impartially enforced in Latah County. The sheriff and prosecut ing attorney must work in harmony and side by side to get results and properly protect the interests of the community. Sheriff Woody and his deputies have worked entirely in harmony with me during their term in office. By our joint action we have been able to save hundreds of dollars to the tax payers. Nearly every de fendant has pleaded guilty to the charges placed against them. The reason for this is that by joint ac tion we have been able to secure sufficient evidence to secure a con viction, therefore, there was noth ing gained by them standing trial. A strict enforcement of all laws tend to protect each and every citizen in their person and property besides creating harmony in the community. Yours very truly, JOHN NlSBET Candidate for Re-election to the office of Prosecuting Attorney of Latan County, Idaho. Adv. Scott Ogden Democratice candidate for prose cuting attorney, when in Kendrick Thursday, called at the office of the Gazette and made the following statement relative to law enforce ment from his view point: "I am unalterably in favor of the enforcement of every penal law on the statute books, without tear or favor. I believe that if the officers of the county expect other poeple to respect the law, they themselves must respect it, and they must en force it against oneviolator as well as anuther. At the same time it is the duty of all public officials to keep tne expenses of their respective offices 'down to the minimum con sistent with good government and efficient servces. If elected to the office of prosecuting attorney, 1 shall adhere strictly to these principles. The people of my county may depend upon it that Iwilfplay no favorites and so long as 1 am prosecutng attorney the State of Idaho will never go into partnership with the uoot-legger or any other law breaker" Mr. Ogden is working a clean, dignified campaign and says that he is meeting with much encourage ment throughout the county. HONORABLE VOTING PUBLIC OP LATAH COUNTY: I am a candidate for County En gineer on the Democratic ticket. Having lived in Latah County all my life, being an ex-service man, graduate of engineering of the Universitv of Iaaho, and having practical engineering experience as highway engineer, I feel justified and qualified in asking your loyal support at the coming election. I pledge you, if elected, my most efficient service. VICTOR E. PEARSQN. For County Commissioner I am a candidate for re-election to the office of county commissioner from the third district. I have served the people of the county dur ing the past two years and believe that the record of the county gov ernment during this time warrants my candidacy at the election next Tuesday. If the voters of the county see fit to again elect me com missioner from this district, I will do all in my power to look after their best interests during the com ing term of office. COLUMBUS CLARK. to ( Paid Advertisement ) Food For Reflections During the past year there have been imported into the United States in competition with the American Farmer the following food products: Two million seven hundred thou sand head of frozen lambs bought of England and shipped from Aus tralia, at the cost of Eleven Cents per pound, dressed weight; one million three hundred thousand more to arrive before January 1; four million more bought for de livery in 1921. Four hundred million pounds of Australian and New Zealand wool at 33 cents per pound. The Amer ican clip is unused and stored. Denmark has sent us four hun dred fifty million cans of milk and seventy-eight million pounds of butter. Canada has sold in the American market two hundred million bush els of wheat for delivery in Octo ber November, December, Jamlarv, February and March. One billion seven hundred million cans of beef or about sixteen cans for every man, woman and child, has been brought, into the United States. £ Canada has shipped us a trainload of potatoes every day since Septem ber 1. It costs $8.00 to produce a 1500 pound steer in Argentine and about $1.50 to raise a sheep in Australia. WARREN G. HARDING CALVIN COOLiDGE TRANK K. GOODING BURTON L. FRENCH Your vote will be wasted, and present conditions cannot be cor rected by a Republican President, unless you elect a Republican Sen ate and House of Representatives. The Republican party stands for protection of American products. The Democratic party leaves the fence open for the foreign producer. WHICH DO YOU PREFER? the work performed by Senator Porter and Representatives Hugo' and Anderson, in the last session of the Legislature, stamp them as men well fitted to represent Latah County. They now have the ad vantage of their experience at the last session, and are in position to be of much greater value to Latah County in the next session, if they are re-elected. Latah County's edu cational and other interests neces sitate strong men in our legislature, and E. W. Porter, for senator, and C . J. Hugo and A. S. Anderson, for representatives, have demonstrated that they are capable of rendering splendid service. Latah County is fortunate in that we have as good a sheriff as any county in the state. John L. Woody, the present sheriff and our candidate for re-election, is one cf the best citizens of the county. He has enforred the laws vigorously and impartially. He has worked in entire harmony with the prosecut ing attorney, and this has resulted in a large sum of money in fines without the great expense of crim inal trials. The law-abidine people of the County know Mr. Woody's record for law-enforcement'. He has not been found wanting. His record deserves the good will of those of our citizens who want to see 'all our laws enforced without fear or iavor. lone S. Adair is a candidate fur re-election as County Treasurer. The office of CountT Treasurer" and Tax Collector has been conducted in an efficient manner by Miss Adair during her term of office. She is„ always wilting and anxious g,ve j mtormat.on and service to the, Her office has collected and hand led funds for the various State and Countv Departments and for the j various taxing districts, in excess j of One Half Million Dollars the j past year, with a discrepancy of only 8c long in funds at the close of the period. The voters will make no mistake in retaining her where she has served so well. The office of the Prosecuting At torney is a very important one. It can cause the county great expense or it can be so conducted as to be of very little expense. Under the in cumbency of John Nisbet, as county attorney, the laws have been ably enforced and this has been done with a minimum of expense. Quiet ly and diligently, he has performed his duties, and tnis course has re sulted in pleas of "Guilty" ny those indicted instead of costly trials. If good honest service counts for anything in politics, Mr. Nisbet is entitled to re-election. Latah County, thanks to the fore sight and aoility of our county com missioners, John Cone, Columbus Clark and Elmer M. Paulson, is in good financial condition. The busi ness of the County is well looked after and is conducted with the least possible expense. Under the able direction of these men, Latah County is without doubt the best governed county in Idaho. There is no reason whatever why they should not be continued in office. Our present County Officers are all candidates for re-election, ex cept Mr. Homer E. Estes, whose term does not expire for two years. Their service has been so satisfac tory generally that none had any op position in the primaries. Some of them have no opposition in this election. The Republican Party of Latah County is proud to present such candidates for re-election. By Republican Committee. Albert J. Ayer Candidate for Sheriff of Latah County on the democratic ticket, is a Latah County man, having lived m this County for the past twenty years, and farmed here for the last ten years.
