OFFICIAL COUNTY PAPER, DKCKMBhR to. 1903 THl'RSDAY. : Riparia to Lewiston now be assured and the electric line from Orangeville will be there to meet it. Our merchants have the most at tractive display of holiday goods brougt to the Prairie and with ever every farmer with his pocket full of money there will be lots of full stockings Christmas. The postmasters of Utah are ar ranging to organize themselves in to the Utah County Postmasters Association, write their by-laws and constitu tion as recent investigation indi cates that he knows a good deal about orgini/.ation in post offices. Perry Ilcath should Prices of eatables in Thunder mountain now rival those of Alaska in boom days, with flour at 14 c. !5 c., sugar 25 c., oatmeal per pound, bacon butter 65 c., beef 25 c., 15 c., potatoes from S to 10 c., salt 15 c. and other uecessaties equally high if a fellow hasn't a genuine gold mine he had better move out until spring. S It is reported that nt • the next meeting of the State Land Board the question of granting the Clear water franchise will be disposed In the face of the overwhelm ing evidence and protests offered by the people of that section it seems hardly possible that a fran chise could be procured which will charge the people toll on nature's highway and rob them of their earnings to enrich a corporation that will give them nothing in return. of. State Auditor Turner has an nounced that he will refuse to issue warrants in payment of the sugar bounty even though the state board of examiners should If the «50000 allow the claims, bounty could bo saved to the state it would indeed be gratifying to the people of Idaho county as no bill passed by the last legislature was more unjust or viscious than the sugar bounty bill, however was a favorite of Gover nor Morrison's aud it was largely through his influence that it be came a law and it seems strange now that bis own administration should try to repudiate it. The bill tie F. At The republican papers are mak ing an effort to defend their party in the postal frauds by charging that some of the parties under in dictment were appointed to office by a democratic administration. This may be true and if so they should certainly bo punished aud a proper portion of the blame charged to the party responsible for their appointment. But the postal frauds are not alone and we would like to remind our republican friends that the Alger canned beef scandal, the Rathboue-Neeley steal in Cuba, the Alexander McKenzie swindle in Alaska, the I'hillipine island jobbery that has caused nu merous court martinis aud removals and the wholesale land frauds that are still before the people, cannot be in any way charged to the dem ocrats and the republicans alone must hear the blame. No govern ment employing as many people iu places of trust as the United States can prevent an occasional dishonest employe from securing a responsi ble position, but never since the in auguration of George Washington has history recorded such whole sale jobbery in our national man agement as exists to day where every department seems to be per meated with crime and the sole ob ject in securing a public office seems to be to rob the people and pillage the public treasury. A preacher at the conclusion of his sermon said: "Let us all in the house who are paying our debts Htaud up." Instantly every man, woman and child with one except ion, sprang to their feet. The preacher seated them and said: "Now every man not paying his debts stand up." The exception noted, a careworn, hungry looking individual, clothed in his last sum mer's suit, slowly assumed a per pendicular position. "How is it, my friend," asked the minister, "that you are the only man here not to meet his obligations?"
