Idaho hotel since 1S99, died at his home Saturday morning after a lingering illness. Smith was born in Kentucky in 1854, but came to Southern Idaho when only 17 years old and fol lowed mining and prospecting in Idaho, Colorado and Montana until lie went into the hotel busi The funeral services and Mr. ness. interment took place at Mt. Idaho Tuesday afternoon. The richest strike ever made in Thunder Mountain is reported to have oecured on the H. Y. about two weekB ago. It was made in the main shaft at a depth of 100 feet. The owners refused to give out what the assay showed, but it is known to be exceedingly rich. This property was formerly owned by Lawrence & Fuller of this city who sold it about a year ago to an eastern company. George Reibold, the 17 year old son of Jacob Riebold, had his skull badly fractured Tuesday by being struck witb a stone, neighbor be was tryiug to catch a horse at the ranch on the CUear water. The man attempted to throw a stone over a building to drive the animal around when the stone struck the building and glancing back hit the boy on the head. The boy was brought to Grangeville and Dr. Bibby found it necessary to trephine the skull in order to remove a portion of hair that had penetrated the fracture and was pressing against the brain.
