The good floor and music and ele gant supper was eojoyed by all present. The Odd Fellows are improving their hall by taking tbe stairway out. This will make the ball wid er and much more convenient for the large crowds which attend the dances given there. F. L. Ruark was the new can didate taken into the I. O. O. F. last Saturday night. The Farmer's meeting held here Saturday drew a large crowd of farmers to town. of KOOSKIA (From Mountaineer) Every city and town in the country has a brass band, but where ib there another little in land village like Glearwater that can boast of a good band? That village supports a brass band that can put it over similar organiza tions in many far larger towus. Prof. Sbattuck, formerly leader of the Stites band, is now located at Glearwater and is bringing the hand right to the front. Lucius and Walter Palmer have purchased an interest in H. J. Taylor's store and the firm name will be Palmer Bros. & Taylor. Mr. Taylor worked up a large business here and the new firm expects to branch out on a more extensive scale. The Palmer brothers have au extensive acquaintance in this locality, their ferry business bring ing them in close touch with a large number of people who made this their trading point. John Neilsen was out this week from Orogrande. He says the people in there are talking railroad to beat the band. G. A. Day and son, H. G. Day, of Chicago, and W. J. Bell of Newaygo, Mich., arrived here the first of the week. These gentle men are here in the interest of a large cement manufacturing indus try and have made up their minde that this is the point for a mam moth Portland cement plant. We understand that tbe ground for a site has already been secured and an inspection made several months ago developed the fact that the necessary material is here in abundance. J. L. Gross, the pioneer mer chant of Kooskia, sold out this week to the Quinlan brothers who are now conducting the business. Mr. Gross has been in business here for over twelve years, during which time he has enjoyed a good trade and the confidence of tbe people. He will remain in Kooakia and devote his time to other lines of work. The Quinlan brothers— Tim and John—are no strangers to tbe people of this locality. They are honest and industrious young men and are bound to get a fair share of public patronage. Editor Hamilton a Benedict, Editor Hamilton of The Elk City Miner, left several weeks ago for the east and considerable of a cloud of mystery surronnded bis j departure. There was much epecu- 1 lation among his friends and the | suspicion that he would not return ' alone was well grounded as the following news item from the Waterloo, (Iowa) Reporter of Febrnarv 11 indicates: "A romance that had its incep tion while the groom was gather ing news items for the Reporter four years ago, and the bride was employed in a local office, culminat ed Wednesday night at Hart, Michigan, where MIbb Jane Har rison aud Mr. Geo. E. Hamilton ! were married. The ceremony, the impressive ring service, was said by Rev. Alfred A. Stephens, pastor of j the Methodist church at Hart, and waa solemnised at the home of the bride's father, W. J. Harrison. The bridal couple will take a trip to Chicago, and after a visit in Waterloo, Reinbeck and Grundy Center will, about March 1, leave for Elk City, Idaho, where they will make their home."
