Milo and Chester good boys and very acceptable in the office and dining-room. are Miss Eckels—who for consider able time has been employed at the Newman Hotel, recently resigned her position and is stopping at present with Mrs. Caspeer, whose husband is away on basiaess. Her bright friendly ways wfl! be much missed. x A. W. Cobb, some time a barber in town, has recently sold his ranch to Dr. A. W. Foskett of this place and returned to his old home in Iowa. It is a valuable property containing about 3,000,000 feet of pine. I Andrew W. Duggan, of the Mc Donald & Duggau Mining Co., who came here last fall prospecting and who has tjeen in the busiuess con tinuously since the war of the Re bellion, having visited nearly every [gold, silver and copper region of I the United States with close in spection, states, with emphasis, [that he has no where seen as good [indications for gold as on his loca tion on Salmon River, Bix or seven [miles from this place. I Mr. and Mrs. Hanson, who late |]y sold their interest in the saw [inill, in the Banner district about [eight miles south of town, have [moved to Camas Prairie not far |froin Orangeville. Chas. Gabriels of this place, who has been employed for some time rauchiug on the Plains, was at the Taylor hotel a few days last week, returning to his place of business on Thursday. Frank, son of Mr. Sewell of Lu cile, is attending school here. Mr. Sunholm, from Big Meadows, was in town last Thursday. Mrs. Deasy, near John Day, is seriously sick with some iutcrnal disease, thought- to be a cancer of the stomach. The suffer and en tire family have the heartfelt sym pathy of all who know them and it is sincerely hoped that she may recover. The two year old son of Gabriel Sykes of Walla Walla, Wash., Superintendent Walla Walla Dis trict M. E Church, who makes business trips to this place three or four times a year, recently died suddenly of diptheria. Mrs. Bessie Key of Joseph Plain, employed for some time at Judge Taylor's has returned to her fath er, R. G. Peters. The household goods of Rev. I. Putnam, so long delayed were brought over from Orangeville by Mr. Canaan last Ftiday. Mr. Barker was in town last Friday from Dumacqa Plains. but is to return again. Fred Davis came in from his mining claim Friday afternoon. Messrs. James & Johnson, of Chicago, were here on a prospect ing tour last week. They are evidently interested in some large enterprise. Mr. and Mrs. Cone returned home from their ranch last Friday. Mr. Howe, an old soldier of the war of the Rebellion, has purchased property formerly owned by Mr. Casebeer. The friends of Mr. Howe will be pleased to have him come into town. , Mrs. Wallace is confined to her bed and is quite ill. Mrs. Judge Taylor wae ill for some time but ie better. CLEARWATER A. Carpenter, an old Bettler in this part of the county, died at his home on Battle Ridge Friday night, Feb. 26. four children to mourn his death. Wm. Starwalt sold his property here to Ed Stamey and wjll soon move to Alberta where he expects to make his home in the future. George Hyatt and wife of Elk City have returned to Clearwater. They will spend sometime visiting friends here. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cosaud last week. Mother and child are getting along nicely and much hope is entertained for Mr. Cosand's recovery.
