BORAH ANSWERS LIBELOUS CHARGES OF DUBOIS NKZ PERCE, Idaho, Sept. Ä.— Pre ded by the boom of anvils, the ex ! plosion of fire works arid a concert by j the Xez Perce band the opening guns j of the republican campaign in Nez I Perce county were fired last evening j by the speech of W. E. Borah. A dele ! galion of representative citizens from I Mohler, leaded by p. V. Dowd, cashier of the Bank of Mohler, attended the meeting. B. C Harbor, chairman of the repub lican central committee, presided, and called niton J. B. Davis of Mohler, candidate for county commissioner, for the opening address. Following Mr. Davis' remarks, Elmer Waldrip, can lidate for state senator, was intro duced. He touched on the opposition the north evinced at one time to the indorsement of Mr. Borah in the state convention. That opposition was not personal, stated Mr. Waldrip, and the pledges of support to Mr. Borah which the legislative nominees have made Indicate the strength and harmony of the republican party in Nez Perce county. Mr. Waldrip's remarks were greeted with applause. C. A. Hattings of Lewiston, repub lican nominee for state treasurer, was introduced and spoke at some length, touching particularly on his labors in the interest of the depository law. Mr. Borah was then introduced by B. C. Barbor amid the cheers of the 300 people in attendance. Mr. Borah made a most eloquent address. The question of tariff revision as supported by Senator Dubois was dis cussed at length, the democratic sen ator's attack on the Rooseveltian pol icy being brought up and dissected. "Even should Mr. Dubois be return ed to the senate and continue his stand "Delicious bread, did you say? Of course. We use 'Marvel' Flour. At'* the best." "Congress has no voice in framing laws for the Individual states. If polygamy really exists in Idaho, Nevada and I'tah '.he Individual states alone can legislate against the prac tice. The accusations of Dubois in regard to Mr. Borah's acting as attorney foi Hi'd Smoot and the sugar trust were met with a very forcible contradiction ami explanation by Mr. Borah. The su gar bount> law and its const! tut Ion - ality was discussed. "There is a decent system of politics In which respectable men can play, rather than resorting to the libelous, slandering and lying policy as adopted by ni y opponent in this campaign,'' said Mr. Borah. The speech was concluded by a re view of the administration of F. R. Gooding in the state land board and treasury department eases, the Studi en berg murder and the loyalty of Mr. Gooding in the support of the prose cution of the criminal cases. Mr. Borah's party, consisting of C. A. Hastings, Mr. Borah and an Even ing Teller representative, drove to Peek this morning. An address will be de livered there this evening, Mr. Borah speaking at Culdesae on Saturday night and at Lewiston Monday night. Pictures taken at night at Gomond's.
