Four of them were Indians, and they are said to have been the best workers in the city jail for a number of years. Deputy Street Commissioner O. W. Rogers, who has charge of the pris oners when working on the street, had his crew as well organized as a regu lar crew of hired men, and a good amount of work was accomplished while they were held. They had a chef, who was a good cook, and performed his duties well. Billy Davis was the name he was held under. He constantly complained, however, that he was allowed only $2 per day. The city places a fine for offenses of Ills kind and If the prison ers are aot able to pay their fine, they are allowed to work It out at $2 per day. Davis complained that he was only allowed, as cook, the same wages as the men working on the streets. "I can get 13.60 on the outside," he said, "by cooking for a crew this size. * The officers could not raise his pay, but yesterday the entire crew was discharged. The men were Charles Bronchau, Billy Davis, Peter Kane, Jaul Jackson, the Levi brothers and John Anderson. Make Proof an Timber Land. H. Elmore Fray, Mattie E. Forbes, Carl W.
