Poor Boy's Quarter
Four men were playing quarters
in a slot machine in the lobby of a
! Denver hotel the other night. They
; played in hard luck for half an
hour, and then there came a lull.
•a messenger boy had been standing
; nearby looking on, and when the
lull came he stepped up. He looked
tired.
"I have just one quarter," he said
in a low tone, and I intended to |
save it. But I'm going to play the
$•'> hole, and if I win I'll give all the
money to my mother. It's time for ^
j the $5 hole to win."
I He put the quarter in and pulled
the lever. The wheel spun around
and every man present waited al
most breathlessly for it to
stop, j
They all wanted the boy to win. At j
last the wheel sopped with a jerk
