THE EXAMINER, Montpelier, Idaho. j j Montpelier, Idaho, Nov. 22, 1809. ! * ' * Gov. Steunenberg is back from Washington. He says the troops will remain in the Coeur d'Alene till all danger of anarchy is passed. We repeat the following prognos ticated, or something that means the same thing: J If the silver republicans have a majority in the next legislature, thev will elect Dubois senator. 1 If the democrats have the edge, they will elect Steunenberg. i • , , . j If the republicans lead m votes choose Shoup, or lley i bum or Morrison, or some other ■ good republican. It seems to be dollars to tin plates that Steunenberg will be Shoup's successor. There is a disposition in some sections to lay Judge Iluston the shelf at the next election, and some papers are advocating the election of Judge Stockslager. We don't know either of these wearers of the ermine, but if Boise is not to : have a supreme judgeship, than we ; say, go north after one. Judge Quarles is from Pocatello and Judge Sullivan is from Hailey. Thu 3 it will be seen that the south part of the state is well represented on the supreme bench. Why not take Judge Steel or J. W. Reid, some eminent lawyer from the north. They have plenty of them up there and in justice that part of of the state should be given a chance. on or Last week the bankers in New York got into a financial pinch, and immediately the Washington gov ernment offered to keep them out by buying up a lot of government bonds at a high premium. The farmers up in the Potlatch county are in a financial pim h too, with their enormous wheat crop going | bPggi 11 ? at a one-half cent a pound. i To date we haven't heard of the government offering any help to i th ® farmers, yet we think they are just as much entitled to assist an ce as the bankers. This simply goes to show that only bankers in New York are con sidered worthy of favors in this day and age of American republic. Its a government of the many for the benefit of a very few.
