A SAIL FROM WASHING TON TO NEW YORK I Con tinned from first page.) proud distinction of being tbe oldest in habited city in tbe United States. Prior the coining of the English ander Cap». John Smith, it was one of Powhatan's principal villages. The famous York town battlefield is not far from Harap tou. Tbe boat just palled away from wbarf at Old Point when tbe stillness was broken by the report of the morn ing gnn, followed by tbe clear strains of the Reveille and the Stars and Stripes floated proudly to the top of a tall white mast. At 8 o'clock we land ed at Norfolk, a very Une Southern city with a polite and bnisness iike population numbering approximately 120,000. I was told that, according to its size, Norfolk does more basinets than is transacted in tbe city of New York. However, it does not reqnire much traveling to convince one that the Western cities are far more progressive and up-to-date than those of the East Upon a comparison of sanitary con ditions is the distinction particularly obvious. At Norfolk I met Mr. Sam Stauffer from tbe War Department, who in formed metbat be also was going to New York. Our boat was scheduled to leave port at 7 p. m., and having ten hours of spare time we planned a trip to Virginia Beach, a resort which is noted for its surf bathing. We caught a car at the Monticello hotel, and after 45 minutes ride through cotton, tobacco and sweet potato fields we arrived at the beach, and I looked 'for the firs! time in my life upon the Atlantic Ocean. It was not long before we were playing "hide-and-go-seek" among the gigantic breakers with the rest of the merry throng. I was thrown face to face with a man with a fierce black beArd and long coarse hair, whom I took for Neptune, but learned later that he was some sort fo a Herman priest. We /emained in the water until 4 o'clock and after dressing we sat upon the white 'sand for an hour listening to tbe roar of the waves At 5 p. m. we returned to Nor folk via (Jape Henry. The country for many miles south and west of tbe cape, unlike that through which we traveled on the way to the Beach, is barreu and resembles a western desert. (Continued next week.) CHRONIC DYSPEPSIA. How to get more for your money. That's the mb. There are ways and ways to econ Some do without; some buy inferior articles. Others make a better use of the money they spend . And that is the, kind of economy we want to talk about. omize. Did you ever figure out how much your heat cost you? Do you know that 95 per cent of the ordinary heating stoves utilize only half of the heat that is in the coal? Do you realize what this wasted half costs you? Utilize that lost half and you will make a real saving and get more heat in the bargain. ' Every stove with numerous air leaking joints wastes more available heat than the stove originally cos*^ That waste is the gas portion of your coal and the heat that goes up the chimney in the ordinary stove. Save the gas —mix it properly with air—burn it and you develop an immense amount of otherwise wasted heat. But it requires a stove of special construction. It must be a stove that is scientifically and mechanically perfect. It must be a stove that has no air leaks. That stove is— Cole's Original Hot Blast Heater ,.y : The stove that absolutely controls your fire. The stove that burns the gases wasted by other stoves. ' The stove that radiates a constant and steady heat from either soft coal, hard coal or lignite. The stove in which the fire is never out. The stove that saves its cost in fuel each winter. \ The stove that lets no gas or smoke escape into the room. The stove that gives you every atom of heat that is in your coal. In fact, the only stove that is absolutely efficient—perfect in construction—perfect in operation. We sell it under a broad guarantee to do all these things. Come in and See It.
