Have the farmers notierd how the
nonpartisan league organizers lost
interest in them as soon as the bal
lots were counted on November 2?
It is strange that men whose great
love for the people prompts them to
leave their own states and come Into
this and other states to save the
farmers at $ 18 per save, can forget
about the distressful condition of the
farmers as soon as the latter "signed
up" under the stress of an exciting
»•olitical campaign. But they will
be back again In two years and will
1 nd many farmers ready to forgive
them and to receive them with open
arras again.— Moscow Star Mirror.
WHERE ONE LIBERTY LOAN IS
(From the New York Herald)
Men who know what they are
talking about say government ship
building and government ship oper
ation have cost the taxpayers $2,
000,000.000 in extravagance, waste,
graft and theft.
Most of the taxpayers have
standard by which to gain compre
hension of what $2,000,000,000
means. This amount of money Is
so great it overwhelms the imagina
tion.
no
Yet there is one comparison which
may be useful in bringing home to
everybody the stupendous cost to the
taxpayers of their betrayal by ad
ministration incompetents.
In June, 1917, the first Liberty
Loan was floated.
The Treasury
appealed to every patriot In the
country to help out. Four million,
five hundred thousand
and children subscribed.
men, women
Some of
them were poor, and their subscrip
tions meant for them privations.
Others subscribed more than they
could afford because the government
had to have the money.
The first Liberty Loan was for
actly $2.000,000,000, or the amount
which the shipping transactions of
the administration have cost the
taxpayers In graft, waste and spec
illation.
The men and women who worked
And saved to buy the first Liberty
Loan will have at least an Idea of ■
what the scoundrels and incompe
tents have cost them in government
shipbuilding and opeiatlon.

Bank Talks
It is taking longer for prices of dry goods
tools, furniture, clothing and machinery to de
cline from war prices than for prices of
cotton, wool, livestock and fruit.
This makes for a temporary hardship for the
producer. There is coming, however, if signs
do not fail, a corresponding drop in the cost of
articles he buys.
Prices of all commodities have been
steady decline throughout the entire civilized
world for the last three months.
The banking position of the nation is sound
and as soon as readjustment of prices for goods
bought and sold takes place the slowing up of
business will be overcome.
