THE STAIN OF IMMORALITY.
A most encouraging sign of the
times is the promptness with which
motion picture houses in many parts
of the country have barred films
in which Roseoe (Fatty) Arbuckle
appears following the development
of the scandal in which he was a
principal in San Francisco.
It was not so long ago when the
notoriety . attained
would have been considered by the
theatre proprietors as a drawing
card, and they would have sought
his films to pander to the morbid
crowds. Either the theater men
have improved morally, or the peo
pie's better instincts have revolted.
It is more than likely the latter. 101
it is human natur for theater man-1

The cynic might inquire In this
which barred Arburke films had in
reality been able
or whether they h:ui been willing to
pay the high price heretofore de
manded for them But it may he
recalled that Jack Piekford was os
in popularity of Mary Piekford and
Douglas Fairbanks following their
failure to observe the conventions in
marrying too soon after the former's
as an actor under similar
circumstances and Clara Smith Dam
on has been banned.
divorce may also lie pointed out to
indicate that tiie public is becoming
more touchy on the point.
