Four Assessments Skipped. With the skipping of the October assessment, Modern Wcodmen of America again takes rank as a re cord breaker. With a change of rates to mark the commencement of the year everything has moved along so prosperously that when the Board of Directors met on Octo ber 14 they found that notwith standing the fact that the October assessment had been skipped, mak ing three skips during the first ten months of the year, there was on that date a cash balance in the ben efit fund of $1,801,076.80, and that all death claims presented could be paid from this cash balance with out the levy of an assessment and still leave more than a million dol lars surplus, and the assessment for November was also skipped, mak ing four skips for the year. This is a splendid record. It proves the new rates are all that was promised and the coming winter should wit ness such an increase in member ship as the members have never seen. Let each camp do its best for the next three months and we will not have very many assess ments for 1905.—Modern Wood It is very poor economy to let bees go into winter without a good supply of honey in the hives. It is also very poor policy to wait until very late in autumn to feed bees. Sugar fed colonies usually winter well if fed earlv and given abuud ance to carry them over winter, ; A , 1 . . ; deeding should be done at mg it.
