Henry Becker and family were en tertained at chicken dinner at the Ed Francis home Sunday. The U. A. Club met last Thursday at the home of the President, Mrs. James Cahalan. were present and the social .hour was a surprise to the hostess and Mother Sanders, their birthdays being near at hand. They were each presented * with potted tulip bulbs by the club. Mrs. John Walters, Mrs. Geo. Foulk, Mr*. Jerome Reed and Mrs- Jama* Locke were welcome visitors. Wentworth family ate dinner Sunday with Mrs. Wayman and Josephine. The alfalfa mill at the J. E. Clinton ranch burned early Friday morning. The fire is supposed to have been caused by defective electric light wires. 'It is loss to the company and especially so at this sea son of the year. It was a total loss and We understand It was not covered by insurance, it having lapsed but a short time ago. Mrs. Ida M. Howard, who has been seriously sick at the home of her son R. J. Howard, is slowly improv ing. Mrs. Holbrook of Emmett visited her niece Mrs. Harry Spaulding at the C. L. Spaulding home for several days last week. S. A. Russell has rented the D. Mc Millan hay ranch, lying directly west of his own ranch, for the coming year. Chas. E. McLean and family, ac companied by Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Haylor, were callers at the J. I. Guth rie home Sunday afternoon. E. J. Reynolds of Boise was a bench visitor one day last week. Quite a number from this vicinity attended the Water Users meeting in Emmett Tuesday evening. MONTOUR After spending a few days in Cald well and Emmett, Mrs. G. W. Barry visited with her brother at Montour Heights, returning to her home in Cascade Wednesday. 1. W. Stoddard, accompanied by his family and Mrs. Victor Sheldrew, spent the week-end in Boise. Fred Spear of the bench country is making his home with the Nolands. George F. Churh was a business visitor in this vicinity Friday and Sat urday. Th*> recent rain has stopped most of the plowing. Harry Sweet will move to Montour in the near future. Loaded with ice cream and cake, a number of lady friends of Mesdames Adams and Sheldrew met at their home and enjoyed a very pleasant af ternoon Wednesday. The Adams and Sheldrew families expect to move to Boise in the near future. SOUTH SLOPE Sunday's rain was very welcome on the Slope. Gardens have been put in and lands as a general thing have been cultivated. Meadows are taking on their greens. /The work on the ditch is getting well along toward th>e lower slope. Mrs. G. A. Warden returned Mon day morning from her California trip, and expresses herself as quite en couraged over the • excellent effect the climate has made in her sister's health. for some time in San Diego. Mrs. Charles Hartley, Jr., is spend ing some time tm the Slope with Mrs. C. P. Hartley. Farmers' products are still on the slump. The hens should spend their time setting right now. Miss Teresa Ivie is improving qu : te rapidly, which is good news to her many friends. Refreshments were served during the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Jones are moving to tfhe Cooper ranch on the bench this week. Lyman Wampler made a business trip to New Plymouth one day last week. The new cream route established out of Letha by Mr. Battan and G. L. Mills is progressing nicely. The men that have land under the Cash Nichols and Stuart ditches are repairing the dam at head of said ditches this week. 'Mr. and Mrs. Kirkman of Emmett were Sunday callers at the Wampler C. A. Mills and Mr. Battan made a C. A. Mills and Mr. Battan hade a business trip to Payette Friday. Mrs. Jones and Miss Vera Mounsey spent Sunday at the Mills home. Mr. and Mrs. Gove having purchas ed the Chas, Pickett ranch are mov ing to same this week. Mr. and Mrs. Kirkman, after an ab sence of two years, will move back to their ranch the first of next week. Lyman Wampler went to New Ply mouth Tuesday, where he has been employed to plow 80 acres of alfalfa ground with their tractor. Mr. Carter went to Nampa the lat ter part of the week. Mr. and Mrs. Bladen spent Monday at the Mills home. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Hughes re turned to Emmett Saturday after spending a week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Olsen. Mrs. G. L. and Mrs. C. C. Mills were Friday callers at the Fishback home. Mr. Robinson has been quite sick with lagrippe the past week. IG. L. Mills made a business trip to Boise Tuesday. rd The little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. C. Mems is quite ill. Mr. and Mrs'. Hale attended the L. D. S. conference at Caldwell Saturday and Sunday. The little son of Mr. and Mrs. Rose, who was operated upon in Egimett last Thursday for appendicitis, was improving nicely at last account«. Bott car went up both Tuesday and Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds returned from Caldwell a week ago Monday and are visiting with their daughter, Mrs. Ed Bott. Allen Newell is visiting in Letha this week. He has been making quite a tour of the Boise valley recently. Lester Applegate had the operation for removal of tonsils and adenoids Tuesday.
