His intended bride is a western lady and for the past two years has been the Agev.ey stenogra pher. The wedding will take place early in the coming year. The Idaho Academy base ball team came up last Saturday after moon to pay the Sagebrush nine and' went home wiser than when they came. The score was 6 to 5 in favor ol the home team. Until the fifth in ning the Pocatello boys did not suc ceed in getting a single man over the plate. After that they began to play the umpire and did fairly well, as the local boys found it difficult to play against a shifting foul line where balls were fair for the Academy and "fouU'' in the same place for the lo cals. With a little more team work our boys will be ready to take on several games with surrounding clubs The boys do not like it very well be cause Superintendent Estep has tor bidden Sunday games on the reser vation, but they will play such games with other clubs away from the res er vation. j The Utah-Idaho Sugar Company's man is here tills week drilling sugar beets on the land under contract with this company. Over 100 acres | will be put out to beets this season j by the Indians. The sugar company and the Agency people have exercised great care in making these contracts aud it is hoped that the harvest will oi.-jt disappoint either party. Only the best Indian farmers have been select success. ed to plant and they have been, held down to an acreage that they cam handle successfully while gaining the necessary experience to make It a greater success next year. It is ex pected that next year the acreage will be three or fou times as large as this and in time that beet culture will be the leading industry on irrigable lands of the resevation. Superintendent Es tep says that beet growing is a favor ite work with the Indian farmers on other reservations and he sees no reason why it should not prove to ibe the same with this reservation and he is going to try very hard to make it a U »Ul Allotting Agent Sams and his crew 'are working on upper Ross Fork creek at the present time. He ex pects to finish in that vicinity early next week and move his camp to the old Fort Hall on Lincoln creek aud work in that place for a month or more. The Easter exercises at the Indian Boarding School on Sunday night were attended] by a large audience of parents aud friends of the pupils who were delightfully entertained with an excellent tw'o-hour program appro priate to the day. The friends of Mr. Ray Parrett are sorry to learn that lie is to go to Shermant Institute, Riverside, Califor nia, but pleased to know that he leaves only to accept a handsome pro motion. He will be the Commandant of Cadets at that crack school after May 1. SHANNON'S COURSE OF LECTURES. ! Prof. Shannon of St. Louis, a mem ber of the American Purity Fed ra tion began a two days course of lec tures in this city Thursday.
