Tom Williams, Secretary of the Mason valley miners’ union, is in jail at D lyton, charged with embezzling the funds of the union. Proposals for carrying the mails in N >vada will be received at the office of the Second Assistant Post jpnster General until December 3, 1901. Dr. L’lvitt of M ison valley has received orders from the Government to vaccinate all the Indians and the empl ives on the Walker Lake reser vation. President Anderson of the Tono pali Company is in Salt Like confer ring with millwrights with a view to equipping Tonopah with a plant that will enable him to work ore that will mill $50 per ton, which cannot be handled at present. John F. Jenkins is now the mana ger of the Tonopah mines. Mr. Jenkins is an old Nevadan, having been a resident of Austin in early days, and it was there he laid the I foundation to his high standing and weilth. He has many friends in Ne va la who are pleased at his success. William Kelly Klaus, the hustling proprietor of the Comstock Bottling Works, has been interviewing our wet goods dealers the past week. He captured the entire trade in Haw borne and B die and started for oda und Tonopah this morning. His soft drinks are unsurpassed on ihecoust, und we imuuneud him to the kind consideration of south end dealers. Albert R uch died suddenly at his home on Sweetwater, September 30. He had left the house in the morning to feed the chickens, and shortly af ter lie was found in the granary dead, lie was subject to epilepsy and it is thought that was the cause of his j death. Deceased was a brother of j William und Andrew Roach. He was born on Sweetwater about U!) years ago. The fuueral took piaee at Bridgeport on Thursday and was attended by a large uumbr.r of ac quaintances. A Sad Bereavement. Our little community was shocked last Saturday by the announcement of the death of Mrs. Alva Miller. On Friday night she was seized! with severe spasms, and notwith standing the untiring , (forts of Dr. Berry and members of the family the c mvulsio is recurred with al irai ing frequency and violence all through the night and until 2 o'clock Satur day. when death mercifully came to 1 her relief. \\ hiie Mrs. Miller hud been in poor health for some time, \ none of her friends imagined she was seriously ill. It is doubtful if there was a person in our town more generally esteemed and respected than Mrs. Miller. As a loving mother, a devoted wife and a kindly neighbor, she won the re gard of all. Deceased was a native of Nevada, aged 31 years. She leaves to mourn her most untimely death a husband and three little children, a father (N. Bruette), a sister (Maud Bruette) and two brothers, besides a large number of dear friends. The funeral took place Monday under the auspices of the Knights of Pythias. Every available vehicle in town was culled into requisition and many were obliged to walk to the cemetery for lack of conveyances. The ladies of Hawthorne rendered appropriate music, and Mr O. F. Taylor read the services for the dead. The grave was lined with white cloth and the casket covered with a profusion of Anvers. During the services the tears of relatives and friends mingled over the remains of a dearly beloved, good woman. The members of the family of the late Mrs. Hattie Miller desire to ex tern) their most heartfelt thunks to all those who sokinuly assisted then) during her sickness and after death. Ordered that the Hawthorne and Bodie toll road, valued at $2,000. be stricken from assessment of the S. D Co. Application of B. Rosen that for a reduction of A. Gruli's assessment was denied. N. T. Piper appeared and made a statement under oath as to the num ber of cattleowned by him. Ordered that (lie Board’s action adding cattle to his asssssment be rescinded. Protest and affidavit of Jerome Vidovich was duly considered and Board ordered that the assessment stand as fixed by them. Estray Notice.
