The fight it on and money ii needed by (be National Committee of the Silver Party tgjuy the expensee of campaign ipeakera ai to end ont silver literature. The Silver Ptrty hu no Mark Eaona to raise millions from the plutocrats of the country by a sim ple rare of the band. The money to carry on our fight must come from the plain peo ple of the country. It is not wanted for corruption purposes, or for tht purpose of siring speakers, as all who ask for anything more than expenses arc referred to Mr. Hsdds, who is known to be bidding high for compensated talent. Every voter in Nevada should be willing to contribute a dollar at least to the cause, and many should contribute more. The editor of the Silver State, as a mem bar of the Ex mtive Committee of tha Nat ional Silver party,, hu been asked to lay this matter before the good people of Nevada and ask them to contribute as Iberslly at their means will warrant Every dollar ao contributed will be sent to National Treas urer W. P. St. John, and be handled by the National Committee for the purpose above mentioned. The other side will have a fund of many millions at their disposal, but if every silver man in the United State will do his duty at this time we will have suffi cient funds to do tha necessary work of edu cation. The Silver State will alio pub lish from bay to day the name of each con tributor and the anount so contributed, I will also ask that Silver or Democratic committees in each county in the State to take this matter up and place it properly Wore the people. I would also ask each SSnr or Democratic paper in the State to pMish this notice, so that every person rill be given a chance to give their mite to the cause of Nevada and humanity. If so desired remittances can be made to me or direct to YYm. P. St. John, National Tresurer, Hotel Bartholdi, New York city We have a gallant leader, our cause is just, the issue is made; victory or defeat will soon be upon os, sud every friend should do his duty by giving all the assistance he can afford. Georoi S Nixon, Winnemucca, Nevada. While the Record it supporting the prin ciple! of the Silver party on general lines, let it be understood that on all local mattera its columns are open for legitimate purposes to the adherents of other factions. We be liever that nearly every local and county officer will be elected this fall more an ao count of his personal fitness fur the position he seeks than from his affiliation with any particular party or local organisation Of course the campaign lie will be worked for all its worth; it hss already been sprung in several instances, in fact, and while this species of political warfare frequently suc ceeds, it never should, in a community at small at ours, where with but little trouble the truth or falsity of any given oharge with regard to any particular man, can be run down in a very short time; and whon a lie of this kind it nailed there should, in justice, be a retroactive sentiment against the indi vidual for whose benefit it was circulated. We have a certain amount of legitimate ad vertising space left, and those who believe in newspaper advertising can secure it. She was expected, anil early the following morning arrangements were made for a lecture to take place that, Friday, evening at ThomD- ton's Hall. Owing to a breeze blowing, no bonfiret were lighted, but a choir of eight voicet was in attendance and rendered tome national airs with good effect. A good atteodane greeted Mrs. William son when she was introduced to the audi enc by Mrs. N. P. Dooley, who had been elected Chairman for the occasion, and then for an hour and a quarter tha lady entertain ingly and instructively addressed the house on the subject of equal rights. Starting with the proposition that Eve was created as an helpmate to Adam, ahe argued that all history showed how wtll woman throughout tht whole world, bad filled the place of a uolpmate to man, illus trating her argumentNirith citations of fadi". vidual iustanoes, aod". frequently eliciting 1 OL ,I I ppiaune. one argues mat a proper con struction of the constitution of the United States conferred the right now contended for, and commented with tome severity on the fact that political necessity should justify the enfranchisement of 7,000,000 ne groes, ignorant and but half civilized, and denying the same privilege to the women of the country. At the conclusion of the meeting arrange ments were made for organizing a local suf frage branch here, and on Saturday after noon the organization was effected with six members. On Sondsy evening Mrs. Williamson ad dressed the publio on the Growth of The American Nation, this time spesking to a much smaller house, but handling her sub jeot in equally good style and securing close attention. On Monday the lady went to Panaca, where she was announced to speak that evening. There she was well received, ad dressed a full house, aod at the conclusion of the meeting a Panaca branch of the Suf frage League was organized with a member ship roll of thirty five names, which were secured then and there. This it tho best and largest local organization Mrs. William too has effected on her present tour, and the has been out from her home in Austin, sinoe the 13th of July. The lady is well plessed with the recep tion accorded her in Lincoln, and has msde many friends here. For Sale. THE POOR EDITOR AND POLI TICS. Prospective office seekers csn get a few pointers from the following, which is com posed a good deal more of truth than poetry: Editors have made fortunes for more poli ticians than they hsve ever made for them selves. It is frequently the case thst after doing hard work for hit party, the editor gets only the glassy eye and the oold, marble heart. As a result some get lireil and quit, while others labor on despite thi selfishness of mankind, relying on thi re ward of the hereafter for editorial labor) well performed in this world. One of ths kind that has been fooled and quits, writei in the Press of Louisana, Mo., at follows: An exchange came to us last week with i blue mark around an editorial booming ..i candidate for office, A printed slip pssteii to the paper kindly requested us, if we sail; anything about the candidate, to send him i marked copy of the paper. And per haps the oold mutton after the election. Our enthusiasm has gone. It haa leaked out through our elbows and escaped through the apertures in our pants. (lory it a good thing, but cold cash is bettor. Campaign thunder will no longer reverberate through these columns except at to much per thunder. Our campaign rooster has to be fed, and wherewith shall we feed him? He lost all his tail feathers from bis last campaign and needs some extract of gold or silver right now. Our tow line isj sagging in the middle and unravelled at the ends. Exchange. The Candidate's Hymn. My office, 'tis of thee, Sweet place of rest for me. Of thee I sing! The Pioche Bryan and Sewall club held a meeting at the courthouse last Ssturday evening aa announced. A constitution and by laws were adopted, several new name added to the roll of membership; and later on a series of meetings will be held. The organization, unlike that of the same mm. at DeLamar, is nonpartisan, and any voter wining to support th Democratic nominees for president aod viot president, it eligible to membership. The Boise Statesman, on. of the leading Republican papers of Idaho, haa a guarantee from tht goldbugt of $20 for each subscriber lott ny its indorsement of the gold platform and McKinley. It it said that the State. man haa lott about 40 per cent of its sub scribers aod patronage since its Bop into the goldbug camp. Justice Bigelow hss written Panna that the Republicans will cany Nevada and tha Saoramento New. says: A man ia whom hope springs so eternal at that, ia as oonfi dently serene as the hodcarrier who. having fallen from the roof of a sky-scraping build ing, gathered himself together when within ten feet of the ground and exclaimed, "now, here's for a hard bump," The Republican Party organization will be maintained in Liucoln this fall, looking of course to future oampaigna. Until three days ago it did not appear that enough of the old party was left hereabouts to make up the five names required for membership in the State Central Committee, but they have been found, though they are not all McKin ley supporters. Charley Wilson, who escaped from the Pioche jail, was at Sun Creek ranch on Son day, the 16th. of Aug., and stayed all night there. He told the boys bow he locked the Sheriff in the jail and made hit escape. He struck out for Idaho when he left the ranch. It is more than probable that he passed through Elko about two weeks ago aod stay, ed all night Elko Independent. The case of Samuel Davis, of San Fran cisco, against the Board of Commit. ioners of this onunty brought to compel the Board to continue the levy of the 45 cent interest tax, provided fur in 1873, aud which has not been levied for the past seveu or eight years, and to pay $7000 ia boads and inter est ooupons held by Davis, hat been N.iut down by the Supreme court for further act ion in this court. The application wax made here last Spring, it will be remember ed, and the plea of statute of limit itinni Wat made against the claim, which was sus tained. The full decision of the Supreme court ha not been reoeived yet so we do nut Ituow whether we are required ta meet payment of the interest only, or of both in terest and principal. We ho.ie to print next week, the full text of the Purity of Elections bill It oc cupies nine five columns of space and needs to be studied by all. The Carson Appeal says of it that a prospective office seeker took it up, studied it out and concluded he stood a better chance of getting into the State Prison than into the office he wanted. so abandoned the proposition. The aspirants for county office are form ing loto line. Ten days more and we will know more to a ceitaintv how the local fight ia to be made. Last Sunday notice was telephoned here from DeLamar. to cer tain aspiraota for office, to be at DeLamar the followiug day. Thev weut and it ia said a fusion of tho Silver party, Democrts aud 1'opulists waa to result. If so the lo cal committeemen of neither of the narties were summoned to attend hence it would appear to be some new organization which ia beaut formed. Some ( Ian of action waa agreed upon, aud a ticket from top to bot tom aien, out whether tlie names will be presented by convention or by petition does not seem to be certain, as both courses have been mentioned, one being that a convention would take place here on either the 17th or 19th of thit month. Proper notice of thi will doubtless be given as indeid it should be, since it is a matter in which the voters are generally eooerned. Lost.
