Holly, a teamster, loaded with Giant Powder and Nitric-Acid had a very narrow escape last Thurs day from bofng blown to atoms, and only saved himself by rare presence of mind. He was on the desert, about five miles the other side of Desert Springs; his front wagon was loaded with Giant powder and the rear wagon Nitic Acid. In some unaccountable manner the rear wag- caught fire while iu motion and when Holly happened to see it, the fire was under good headway. He immediately realized the perilous position ho was in for ho was sitting on a load of Giant powder, a spark from the fire boing enough to give him a faster ridothau ho would get in Gabriol's Chariot. It was no time to think of the hereafter, but action was ueedod, and that speedily, if he wanted to remain in the land of tho living. He stopped the team, jumped off the wagon, un coupled thefrear wagon, the heat being so intense that he was partly scorched, got back on the front wag on cracked the whip at tho horses and lit out on the dead run with the load of Giant Powder. After ho had got far enough awav to bo safe, ho watched the flames consume his wag on nnd tho bursting of the bottles of Nitic Acid from tho heat made cannonading report like tho Artil lery from a small man-of-war. No more hauling of Giant Powder and Nitric Acid for Holly, for ho lived fifteen lives in half as many minutes and does not want to undergo a siiu ilar experience. Board of Equalization. Another boiler will be put in the mill as soon as it cau bo received hero. Tho present dynamo and , engine will be taken out and larger ones put in. The smallest one of tho twin engines has been set up on its old foundation to run the rock breaker, etc., at the DeLamar mill. Captain J. It. Townsite Case Decided. A telegram to Ben Sanders on Monday afternoon from Carson, stat ed that the townsite case :had been decided in favor of the townpeople. That night an impromptu celebra tion took place, the band being out and a sort of jollificotion indulged in. The decision are not yet known but probably soon will be. Many are curious to know the lines on which tho judgment is rendered. Tho mine owners will doubtless take an appeal to the Supreme court of the United States. ATTEMPTED FORGERY. Thos llynn will yobehiml the bars for pnssing two checks of the April- Fool Company tlmt had been forged and were dated the 17th and 18th of September. Tom took the check and not having the change went to the postoflico where it was cashed and the forgery immediately afterward discovered, having the name of N. P. Dooley signed to the check. The chiunnian was sent for and returned the money "to the post office clerk and immediately inform ed tho officers who gave him the check which resulted in the arrest of the above named individual. It was afterwards learned that a page consisting of three blanks has been torn from the center of the check book, which is kept in the office in the rear of N. P. Dooley "s store. The second check passed by the ac cused was one for the amount of $54 nt the saloon of John Vietti, the third check being found on his per son when placed under arrest, and $39 in money. Ryan on the after noon of the 18th, went into Dooley 'a store and asked to write a letter and it is supposed it was at this time the blank were obtained.
