Pope' Invention Patented in the United States and Canada. Cnas. L. Pope has just received a patent fiointlie Domiuion of Canada on his invention of a new lUilway Itiiil Joint, upon which a patent was grunted liiro by the U. S. Govern ment some time ago. The invention relutes to an im proved railway rail joint, the object being to provide a labor and time suvitig means for joining Abutting ends of rails in a rigid bond without the use of the usual fish-plittes and bolts, and to provide a smooth du rable joint over which car ttucks miy pass in either direction without j ir, irresponsive of the expansion or contraction of the rails. It consists of a rnil joiut comprising a rail hav ing ts ends provided with an open vertical slot: extending from top to bottom of the rail, the upper part of said slot extending backward along the trad of the rail, and the bifur- I cated portion of the tread on each which has an approximate value of side of the slot projecting beyond $60,000, will be exhibited at the St. the end of the rail, the opposite rail Louis World's Eair.
