Object Lesion in Advertising-.

Don't advertise if you believe
you are wasting money, says an
exchange. Let your competitor
waste his money on advertising:,
and perhaps in this way you'll
soon put him out of business."
Just stand back and laugh at
him when you see him squan
dering his money for printers'
ink. Once there was a bov
named John we think his name
was Wanamaker, or -mavbe.
Moneymaker, anyhow his name
was John with some sort of a
maker attached to his last name.
He owned fifty yards of calico,
three pairs of jeans, a half dozen
pairs of home made yarn socks
and five pairs of boots. He
called, this a dry goods store
through a Philadelphia news
paper and offered to sell a pair
of socks for thirty-nine cents.
The , don't-believe-advertising
merchants just argued; young
John spent $G5 with a Philidel
phia paper to advertise just one
time and had less than $100
worth of goods. He was cau
tioned by the merchants who
"knew it didn't pay." It was
through sympathy that they
offered him advice. But John
didn't listen to them and went
and blew his money foolishly;
and to-day poor John sees the
result of his misdoings he has
so many large dry goods stores
that he can hardly find time to
study his Sunday school -lesson.
Can you see a lesson in this?
Be a progressive, up-to-the-time
business man. Advertise your
wares if you want to sell them.

There was a derease in the
number of manuf actnring estab

output and capitol invested in a
majority of the states, due it is

small enterprises.
The increase of production
and capital invested in all the

TELEGRAM,
In an interview that Governor
Colcord had with the Carson
News, he states that the finest
gold ever received at the Carson
Mint-comes from Goldfield, Ne
vada. In fact it is the finest in
the world. Its purity is re
markable. Every bar has a
fineness of better than 20, and
20.23 bars are not uncommon.
In one instance a bar from Gold
field was received at the Mint
having a fineness of 20.55; pure
gold is 20.67.
