Bringing gifts for the president and Mrs. Roosevelt, the secretary of state and Mrs. Root, and other notables, the Imperial Chinese Commissioner Tang-fihao-Yi. Elaborate plans for a period of offi cial entertaining had been completed, but owing to the three months' period of court mourning nothing will be done aside from an unofficial exchange of civilities with those bearing intimate relations with the staff.
