Representative of American Met al Co., See Pioche Mines Walter , Gardner, assistant to Otto Sussman, 1 western representative of tbe American Metal Company with headquarters at Salt Lake, was in camp several days this week and spent the time here in examining tbe Prince Consolidated, Mendba and Day mines, all of which he pronoun ced properties possessing great merit. "I spent considerable time in tbe Prince Consolidated," said Mr. Gard ner Just before he left his hotel for the train yesterday morning, "and I bave no hesltency in making the as sertion that the Prince Consolidated Is one of tbe most wonderful mines I have ever visited. In all candor, I believe it to be one of the very great mines of the world. But I was also very much impressed with both the Day an d Mendba properties; but 1 lid not see as much of thine as I did of the Prince Consolidated. "It appears to me that Pioche has a wonderfuly bright future in a min ing way. tbe camp ought to and I believe lit will, move to the front at a very rapid pace." Mr. Gardner declared that his trip to Pioche had no particular signif icance attached to it; that the ob ject was merely to obtain a general idea of the camp and its possibilities as a future producer of ore. He said be was on his way home from a trip to Mexico and took advantage of the opportunity to stop off enroute. The Horn Silver mining district, in Esmeralda County, Nev., Is the sub ject of a short report by P. L. Ran some, in the Vnited States Geological Survey's Bulletin 380, entitled "contrt butioiis to economic geology, 1908, Part I," The town of Horn Silver, 2i5 miles southwest of Goldfleld, stands at an altitude of 5.SO0 feet above sea level on a gentle slope that opens northward into a broad desert valley and is enclosed on other sides by hills. The principal min eral deposits lie southwest of the town, within a distance of a mile, and are developed mainly by a single mine, from which shipments of ore aggregating in valu about $40, 000 were made in 1908. The val uable contents of the veins are na tive gold and chloride of silver. Mr. Ransome's report Is Included In 380, numbered 380-A. which may be obtained on application to the Di rector of the Survey at Washington.
