DEDICATION OF NEW SCHOOL

MERCIAL CLUB OFFERS FREE

The teachers of Lincoln county
are going to meet in a District Teach
ers' Institute, as provided by the
state school laws.
Two features are established cer
lanties. The Institute will be held,
and next month Is the time most
likely the three or four days Just be
fore Christmas.
The place of meeting hasn't yet
been selected, and Pioche herewith
starts the ball rolling . to secure the
Institute. Some of our "boosters"
' have been considering the matter of
making an effort to land the teach
ers in Pioche, and have ascertained
in a measure what the town can of
ftr them as lnducmeents.
The new school building will soon
be ready for odcupaacy, and it pro
Tosed to dedicate the new seat of
learning at the time of holding the
Institute if it can be secured for Pi-
cche. V
The Pioche Commercial Club is
lending its support, and has voted to
pffer the use of the club room to
all teachers at any time during their
stay here. The Pioche school board
has appropriated $25 for institute
purposes, while the Nevada . school
laws provide that each district in
stitute shall receive $150 from the
state school fund. Deputy Superin
Undent Ross wlU ask the Lincoln
' ounty High school board of educa
tion to make a substantial contri
bution, and it is reasonably safe
that the board will make the grant

It is aimed to hold the sessions in
the assembly room of the new school
building and Charles A. Thompson
has offered to install gratuitously a
temporary gas lighting system, espec
ially for the occasion.
One of the chief features of a sim
ilar gathering of men and women
fr,om a distance is that -of entertain
ment. Sufficient ,lnqulry has been
made to warrant the statement' that
Pioche will furnish free entertainmei t
in the way of board and lodging to
all teachers who may attend. The
homes of Pioche would be thrown
rpen, and the institute would'nt cost
a single teacher a single cent In the
'ay of living expenses while here.
If the dedication of the new school
b lildlng and the holding of the insti
tute can be held in conjunction, it
wculd be, at least many believe it
would be, a grand boost for the cause
of education; while It doubtless would
result In all Pioche citizens taking
a more lively Interest in such mat
ters. What with the tntertaining and en
lightening programs of both the ded
ication' and the institute, the many
visitors fiom all over Lincoln coun
ty and outside the state, the patri
otic pride in the new building, the
mingling together, the laugh and jest,
the hip-hip hooray of it all, it would
be a gala occasion. It would put ev
erybody In fine spirit to enjoy that j
gladsomest of all times Yuletide. j
Mr. Ross has already been notified ;
by telegram that Pioche is alive to its
opportunities, and of what she is of fa

required to file the same with the
proper vouchers and statutory affi
davits attached, with the clerk of

the date of the first publication of
this notice.
