STAND |»V TilK ItKCOItl). The Democratic municipal conven tion was not willing to inject foreign issues into the local campaign. Tin Democrats can well afford, however, to stand by the record of the party in the legislature. The right of lie people to vote on prohibition was not denied by the Democrats, who voted for submission, but by Repub lican votes. Will the Republican party of Uiueflchi stand by tin* rec ord of its party? Does the Tele graph endorse the vote of its sena tor, Mr. Baker? Or the vote of its delegate, Mr. Dillard? Well see what we’ll see tomorrow. Nothing is plainer than that the Republican ring has shown to* white feather. Contrary to custom with the party in power it lias pm Its convention ff until the last day upon which tl e convention coul.1 be held to get the names on the ticket The custom is universal for the par ty in power to bold Its convention first. The ring dreads the issue an 1 desired to wait until after the Dem ocratic convention in order that it might inject some boomerang into the campaign to becloud the quos tions at issue. Wouldn’t It look much like S*.,ui rebuking sin If the Republican ring should declare itself in favor of the recent proposed amendment to • h< constitution providing for the sub mission of the question of prohibi ts to the vote of the people of the state, after its own party voted this question down in the legislature, and when the convention held at Bram well would not declare itself in fa vor or the amendment. It would he funny indeed if the gang which Is willing to license "hot-footin' ” es tablishments and Raleigh street dives should now attempt to hide themselves under the boomerang ol a constitutional amendment in the local campaign when the question is a state issue. The same gang who are running affairs in Bluefleld attended tin* con vention to name state delegates at Bramwell, but they did not favor a constitutional amendment there, where the question might properly have been dealt with. Will they turn turtle on this as on other questions? Dnable to announce his own views Hugh Ike Shott continues to criti cise (he action of the Democratic Good Government convention upon declining to draw state or national issues Into the local campaign The Telegraph does not know exactly upon which side of fhrt f< nee it will fall. Inasmuch as It mud wait for the ring to declare Itself and then must think with the ring, because if It should perchance think before hand it might afterward have an other think coming to It. Our contemporary makes the fol lowing lame criticism in yesterday’s "If they t*he Democrats I arc* able- to poll enough votes on May 5 they will no doubt grant li censes another year hence and pc>r slbiy hold some up.” In It* desper ation the Telegraph not only at tempt* a criticism upon a subject which it refuse to define Itself un til after the mot ley convention tt'hich will he hefd tomorrow, but abo attempts to criticise the ticket for what If predicts if will do Our contemporary evidently mis understood the communication to which if attempted a reply on yes terday. or attempts to evade the fine :tIon. The eommunlrallon to which It refers merely criticised the T<- egraph for it* failure to report the resolutions of the Democratic Oood Government convention in de nouncing the untcusines -like meth ods of the city council jn first re fusing and afterward granting Ilcyior license* to certain parties, and de. dared such methods were not above suspicion, and also denounced th® licensing of the negro dive* on Hal eigh street. I’pon this subject our contemporary was as silent as i!,e tomb. The Telegraph also Hies off at a tangent anti .says that it did report the proceedings of the council meet ing. This has not been controvert-* I. It also attempts to show that be cause we gave an account of the proceedings of the council meeting that we copied from them. If w»* bad relied upon the Telegraph fir a report of the proceedings of the last meeting we would not have told our readers anything about the caustic criticism of Judge Joseph M Sand* rs. an episode which the Tele graph would like very much to sup ureas. We can easily observe the common custom of the Telegraph to rehash our telegrams and news items, and our contemporary not in frequently pays The Leader th<* com pliment of copying almost verbatim items which tlrst appear in ou- col u mini. ‘‘Kvcry mau to Ills trade" is an ■111 adage and Is familiar to nearly • ■ I of us. It is brief In Its wording ;:it conveys a great deal In its mean ng. It Is merely a terse way of lying that a man who makes a spo ialty of any one thing knows more about, and Is more proficient In his particular specialty than any one ■Iso could be. It la for this reason hat we all seek a specialist when ve have any serious physical all ni'iit. Our grandmothers used to get a lot of old nails, place them in a ves sel containing vinegar and allow them to remain until the acetic acid j in the vinegar produced an iron so lution. This concoction was then taken by nearly every member of the family during the spring and ! fall and It rarely ever failed to strengthen and beneilt the person taking it. The old way was good j but there is a new way that is far better. Science has discovered a | way to manufacture iron so that it' can be dissolved in syrups and elixirs and given in de.flnite doses. One of the best and surest ways to take iron is in Itydale's Tonic. This remedy is a combination or Iron, Quinine and Strychnine in an Orange Elixir and combined with other ingredients that make it very valuable as a blood and ne.rve tonic.
