Johnson, of Minnesota, was a visitor j
at the oapitol Saturday and spent
some time on the floor of the house,
where he nan the recipient of much

when escorted by Mr. Tawney. he
ascended the rostrum and was In

Saturday night about 8 o'clock
while Charles and Grant Crumpton,
Hoy Johnson and Jim Haley, color*
♦mI, were fishing under the. fifth
bridge, about a mile west of Gra
ham, they found the body of a col
ored man floating li: the water un
der the bridge. The remains were
brought to the colored Odd Fellows'
hall at Gratia m, and yesterday
morning the body was Identified as
that of Charley Crockett, of Kggles
ton Springs, Va., who wah well
known by several colored |#ople of
Graham. He was also seen in Mine
field Saturday morning and was In
Graham about 3 o’clock Saturday
afternoon. There are variotiR opin
ions among the colored fieople at
Graham about his death. Some,
think he was knockixl from the
bridge by a passing train while
others believe he was murdered. HIb
skull bone was split across the cen
ter of the head and some of the
colored jieople think it was done
with a hatchet or an axe. His pipe
and watch were found on his body,
and also an emblem of the colored
Red Men was found on 1he collar
of his coat. The remains were
burled In *the pauper burying ground
near Graham about 2 o’clock today.
Crockett was about 25 years of age.

The public buildings bill of con
gress as It passed the house on Fri

the $10,000 paid for site and $100,
000 previously appropriated, makes
a total of $130,000 for Blu‘field
imstofflce and court house. The
contract for the building was let to
D. J. Phipps, of Newport News, Va.,
but there are some changes and de
tails yet to be perfected before
work will begin. Mr. Phipps was a
former Blueflelder, during the first
boom days, and w’ent to Newport
News alKMif ten years ago, where It
Is said ho has prospered.
