Undoubtedly the high tempera ture had something to do with the indisposition on the part of many seuators to discuss the hill. At no time whs there n quorum present except when the roll was being call ed to establish the quorum. During the morning the Demo crats had sweltered through a con ference lasting more than nn hour at which time It was decided sot to filibuster against the bill. While the conference had no binding force the sentiment favored tho minority standing together In a solid vote against the bill. On the other linn-l It la not likely that more than two Republicans will Join the opposi tion. The discussion was opened by Senator Aldrich, who made, a brief statement ooncerning the comi-ro |tnlae bill. Some of the Democrat • then sought to get an agreement to oosalder the campaign publicity bill and afterwards aftceehes against the currency measure were made by Seuators Teller, Newlands an 1 Owen. No other senators wer* ready to speak. Senator Aldrich s)>ent most of the day trying to ar range uu agreement to vote on the bill today. This was not opposed by Senator Culberson, the minority leader, but Senator LaFollette, who is very much opposed to the bill, asked that a motion for an agree ment be not pressed. lioFoIlette Oppose*. Stating frankly that be had tried to organize a filibuster against the bill, but had met with little encour agement, Senator DaFolletto said he probably would not speak at length.
