PRICE TWO CENTti STANDNRD OIL, AMICOM FRUIT, PEERLESS COAL CO. i DESTROYED BY FIRE Destructive Fire on Bluefield Avenue This Afternoon Started in Stan dard Oil Company's Plant. Fire which started in the ware room of Lho Standard Oil Company’s J plant on BLuefleld avenue thi* after noon quickly spread to the adjoining buildings of the Amlcon Fruit Com pany and to the coal sheds of the Peerless Coal Company, destroy ing these places. The tire was first discovered in empty oil barrels ami on account of their inflamable natur? was under head-way before the two fire depart ments could reach the place. Some trouble in souring, connection with tiho fire plugs on Bluefleld avenue was oxperlnced. Two connections broke as the water was turned on. w'hlch aided in the delay to the fire men. The Amlcon Fruit Company’s build Ing was the first to burn down, trie fierce heat from the burning oil bar rels and, being a frame building was soon a mass of ruins. Only the office llxtures were saved frrm the Amlcon plant. Their lose will reach $20,000 which they state Is fully covere,] by Insurance. At the beginning of the fire the tops were quickly removed from the oil and gasoline tanks ho that no ex plosion would result in case the heat or flying sparks should Ignite them The Norfolk ami Western railway tracks running just behind the burn ed buildings caught fir* but “ho rail road company soon made conoctlon with their water power and succeed ed in stopping the*flro. Three cars loaded with coal were also on the sldo track and were burned. Their loss con not be esti mated, but will reach several thous [ and dollars. The coal shod of the Peerless Coal Company caught from the burning Standard Oil and Amicon buildings but was practically burned down, al though tho Norfolk and Western hose rendered good service in fighting the ft re.
