BLUEFIELD EVENING LEADER ESTABLISHED APRIL 8' 1906 ^ BLUEFIELD. \V. VA.. TUESDAY AFTERNOON. NOVEMBER 13. 1910 * PRICE TWO CENTS LONGEST TIME WITHIN RECENT HISTORY THAT NO SERIOUS ACCIDENT HAS BEEN REPORTED. FEW VIOLATIONS OF THE STATE MINING LAW. — • OPERATORS AND MINERS ARE STRIVING TO BETTER THE GENIAL CONDITIONS. W. Xicholt-on. mine inspector for the Eleventh District, left this morn ing for Davy to inspect the mines of the Dry Fork branch and in that vicinity. He knocked on wood when lie said it, but he declared that the several fields in this part of the sta'e have enjoyed a longer kc ison free from explosions or accidents of any kind than ever before in their history. No explosion of any consequence has occurred for many months, and in the line of other accidents there has not even been a slate fall in any of the mines entailing fatal results. The reason for this slate of affairs it is believed exists in the fact that there is closer inspection, and a disposition on tho part of both minors and operators to comply with the mining laws. Mr. Nicholson hud* praeM^ally all the mines of his dis trict In excellent shape. There is a very decided inclination he says, among the operators to aid in the matter of inspection with a view to protection of life among the miners. ! For several visi*s back to the vari-j ouh mines no prosecutions for infraol tions of the state minin'? regulations have been reported, and the present tendency appears to be toward bet tering general conditions.
