Russell Brown was a had boy from hi"
childhood. Nobody seemed to have any
iLfluence over him except in the dircctb-n
of evil. His associations were all of tin
worst character. IIo bad no business,and
wuuted none. He ran away from home
once to work as u brakemau on a railroad,
hut soon returned. Another time be fled
to New York with the idea of enlisting in
the navy, lie was in St. Lotus again with
in a month. When sadly nduced be
would visit bis grandfather's man*-ion, ««s
tenotbly to be agreeable to the old people,
with whom be was quite a favorite, n >t
withstanding his dissolute ways. He al
ways took something valuihle with hi jj
when he left. If he pawned it, a* was
usually ih‘ case his father would redeem
it and restore it. His grandfather drove

in the out-kirte of 8*. Louis, and finally
ItiP grandmother grew afraid of him. Ilis

when she wore her diamonds that filled

was in uie bouse, having a premonition of

Having alienated his grandparents muJ
tried the patience of his other relatives to

panions and entered on a protracted de
hauch, in the course of which he encoun
tered Pat McOlew. McOlrff .*us born in
Indlanapolie, and is the brother ->f n girl
who was murdered in that city a few
fears sgo. He had been a bartender and
bravrter all m» life. Oo the night of the
2?>b of January lafct, these two hired a
carriage and drove out to the lonely road
leading to the tyornsa place, and the next
morning Mr6. Dorrlss was found dead,
