Va. | PICTURES and FRAMING EXPORTS OF PETROLEUM With the report of the exports of petroleum and its products for the month of June the complete statistics for the fiscal year are available for camparison and analysis. As compared with the year preceding there is shown an increase in the total export move ment, though the increase was not large enough to bring out foreign trade up to the figures during preceding years. As compared with the fiscal year 1903 the total shipments show an increase of 15, 600,000 gallons and this increase was mainly in June, the June ship mets showing an increase of 14, 900.000 over those during the same month last year. The conditions abroad cannot be said to have been more favorable, or that there has been other increases in con sumptive requirements than caused by the natural increase in population and expansion of trade to sections where the oil had not become the popular poor man's light. That we have not benefited to the full extent of these is shown by the fact that the ijierease dur ing the past fiscal year still leaves us far behind the record for 1902. This is attributed, of course, to the sharp competition with the oils of Russia, Roumania and Galicia, the latter especially having been shipped in increasing quantities to various European countries, while the Russian product has made con siderable headway in the Far East, though latterly this trade has suffered by reason of the war. The exports of the different pro duets show considerable variation ?the increase in the total ship ments being mainly due to the' larger shipments of illuminating oil. The exports of crude oil during the past fiscal year reached a total of 108.000,000 gallons, showing a decrease, as compared with the year preceding, of 23.700.000 gal lons. Of the total 1.1,000,000 gal lons was Texas crude, that show ing a'decrease of 1,300,000 gal lons. The exports of illuminating oil reached a total of 724,600,000 gallons, showing an increase of 40,800,000 gallons. Of the total 13,600,000 gallons was sent from Texas. Of napthas 15,200,000 gal lons were exported, showing an in-: crease of 3,900.000 gallons. The experts of lubricating oils amount- ? eel to 86,600.000 gallons, showing a decrease of 4,500,000 gallons. The exports of residuum show a small decrease, but they have averaged larger during the past three months, the small average ship-1 ments being during the last calen dar year. The amount of the to tal export was 956.600,000 gal lons, showing an increase of 15, 600,000 gallons. The relative importance of the various ports of shipment has not changed. New York leading with 478,000,000 gallons to her credit, the other ports following in the same order as heretofore, viz.: Philadelphia with 319,000,000 gal lons, Delaware with 80,500,000 gallons. Baltimore with 41,100,000 j gallons, Galveston with 36,700,000 i gallons, and Boston with 1.000,-J 1000 gallons, tl will be noticed j that the exports from California | are omitted, but for what reason | the officials at Washington have not stated. As these have grown in importance during the last few years they should receive the same attention as shipments from other points.
