It i? a fact to be deplored that when the river is frozen over solid as it is at the present time, that it does not afford good skating for the amusement of the lovers of this delightful sport. Charles Reicherter and Ed Quigley will give a public ball on next Saturday evening at the Ar mory. The music will be furnish ed by a full orchestra, and a gen eral good time is assured to all who attend. Rev. and Mrs. T. A. Anderson left this morning on the 11:18 train for Charleston, to attend the marriage of the daughter of Gov. and Mrs. A. B. Cushing & Cushing are i drilling at the present time two gas wells in the above field for the Hope Gas company. Charles Creekmore of Wood street, had a valuable dog poison ed yesterday. This makes the fifth dog to be poisoned in this part of the city within the past few days, and an effort is being made to lo cate the guilty persofi or persons committing the dastardly deeds.
