Nan Patterson Would Not Trust a Jury Of Women Can it be possible that Xan Pat terson, with her wonderful blue eyes, has seen deeper into the soul of woman than other and osten sibly better women } She declares, according to a newspaper corres pondent, that she would not wish to trust her fate to a jury of women. If a culprit happened to be handsomer than the jury she would suffer. It is just possible that in her narrow career and exceptional environment that she ha^p't known many good women. Certianly there may be many who do not generously admire superior charms, but the most ardent lov ers of beauty are found among those who cannot lay claim to any loveliness, except, possibly, that of the soul. At 12:45 Judge Goff finished his formal charge to the jury, which took up sixty-nine minutes. The jury retired at 1:02 o'clock. Fourth Trial For Caleb Powers The celebrated case of Caleb Powers, former secretary of state of Kentucky, and thrice sentenced to death for the murder of Gov. Goebel, lias came up for hearing in the district court for the fourth trial. The present trial promises to be more interesting than its predecessors. Former Governor Black of New York, recognized as ojie of the foremost criminal law yers in the United States, has been retained to conduct the de fense and lie will be assisted by former Governor Yates of Illi nois, and several other attorneys of prominence. Paul Davis Meets With Serious Accident Paul Davis, an employe of the Eureka Pipe Line Company at Bra den Station, had the misfor tune to get one of his feet badly crushed late yesterday afternoon while discharging his duties. Mr. Davis was taken to the Wheeling hospital this morning for treat ment, and it was stated by a gen tlemen who accompanied the pa tient that he was afraid the mem ber would have to be amputated. White or cream lace may be col ored to mutch ecru or coffee tints by a thorough dip in the following solutions: For cream color, a weak strained solution of yellow ocher I (3 cents' worth is enough for a I year's use). Co (fee color may be produced with strained coffee. "String color" is made with a solu tion of oolong tea. "Butter color" can 1m? secured by a weak solution of I gamboge.
