Mayor's Notice.
The following ordinance of the
City of Sistersville is again pub
licly announced for the guidance
of any one who mav be in ignor
ance of its provisions:
Chapter 38. Section 45. It
, shall be unlawful for any person"
to fire or discharge within such
parts of the city which are or
shall be laid out in lots, or within
one mile of the limits of said
city, any cannon, gun, pistol, fire- 1
arms, or any cracker, squib, rock-*!
et or fireworks, except it be of ,
necessity, or in the discharge of j
some public duty, or a military |
parade by order of the officer in
command or with the permission 1
of the Mayor of the city.
For the protection of the peo
ple and the property of the city
the above ordinance will be rigid
ly enforced except in the par
ticular of small crackers and
other devices on the Fourth of
July. Canes and pistols which
explode blank cartridges will not
be allowed.

The peridot, the Arabic name for
"precious stone," has for many years
been frund in Ural mountain quart*
and in the rocks of South America,

is not prohibitive in price and goes
beautifully with almost anything
except sapphires. In settings of
diamonds or pearls it is effective,
and it is likely to be prized for its
decorative value in the larger kind*
of ornaments.
