SUPPLEMENT. WednrmU)', April S, I!KKt. Chariuj is Beauty. Ages ago there was a dispute be tween three maidens as to which had the most beautiful hands. Due sat by a stream and dipped her hands in the water and held them up. Another plucked strawberries until the ends of her fingers were crimson ed with the slain. Another gathered flowers until her hands were fra grant. An old, haggard, woman passing by asked: “NN ho will give me a gift for 1 am poor?’1 All three denied her but another w ho sat near, unwashed m the stream, unstained bv the fruits, unseented with the flowers, gave her a little gilt to satis fy her wants. She then asked them the cause of their dispute, and they told her and held up their hands. “Beautiful, indeed! ’ she exclaimed, when she beheld them. NN hen they asked her which was the "tost beau tiful she replied: “It is not the hand washed in the stream, it is not the hand tipped with red, it is not the hand scented with sweet violets, but the hand that giveth to the poor, that is the most beautiful.’ As she said these words her wrinkles tied, her staff was thrown away, and she stood before them an angel from heaven with authority to decide the dispute; and that decision has stood the test of all time.
