Ik -— Miss Emma Nye, who ha^ been siek is able to be out. Mrs. Sarah McIntyre is having her residence re-painted. Deputy Sheriff Johnson,of Shoals, was in town last Saturday. II. II. Rutherford visited relatives and friends at Ardell last Thursday and Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Watt Frizell of f Huntington, spent Sunday with Ceredo relatives. C. II. Hippie who has been clerking for Robert Haziest, the grocer, has resigned. -- Drs. W. F. Sturgill and J. T. W barton performed an operation upon J. R. Col man Monday. Miss Gertrude Thacker who lives about two nnles back of Ceredo is dangerously ill with pneumonia. After this date all evening church services will begin at 8 Pl o’clock. Morning services at 10:45. Misses Archie Hopkins and Be ' " ' atrice Price visited friends and rela tives at Huntington Saturday and Sunday. % Mrs. Samuel Rhodes of Wil liamson, has returned from a visit to the family of G. B. Rhodes of this place. Alfred Irby left Monday for Parkersburg to take a clerical posi tion. The Advance’s best wishes go with him. The sewing circle of the con gregational church met Monday afternoon with Mrs. Spurlock on main street. Col. J. M. Fuller one of the sub L etantisl citizen ot Huntington, was looking after his Ceredo property last Saturday. He was en route home from Hinton where he atteud j ed the annual meeting of the West Virginia Grand Lodge of Red Men. I Lew Handley and wife of Coal Grove, and others, were in Ceredo Saturday. They took dinner with G W. Hensley whose funeral they | came to attend, but as Mr. Hensley was only killed through the columns of one of Huntington’s interprising newspapers a good time was had. Justice of the Peace Brown of Wayne, tried a case at Kenova Sat urday as Justice Lambert and Roe were interested parties. It grew out of a midwife being quarantined at the same house after her assistance was unnecessary, on account of small pox She wanted damages and pay for her detention. The Supreme Court at Charleston has handed down a decision in the case of Mrs. Nicol against the Hunt ington Water Company, in which the former claimed $30,000. This is the suit that grew out of the burn ing of the Adelphi Hotel in Hunting ton almost two years ago, when the reservoir of the water company was dry. She lost the suit. has the Smallpox. Mrs. Doolittle, wife Judge K. S. 1 Doolittle of Huntington has a well defined case of smallpox. Accident at Kenova. Last Friday while Walter Hensley of this place and a Mr llonaker of Central ('ity, were working on a scaf fold at the Huh A Wheel factory at Ivenova, it gave way and both were hurt. Mr. Hensley’s shoulder was injured and he was considerably bruised, but was able to return to work Monday morning. Several of Mr. Honacker’s ribs were broken and he will not he able to return for a few days. Dr. .1. F. York of Kenova rendered the injured men assistance. Paid Well For Injuru. An old gentleman by the name of Co wen Jessie who was struck by a Camden trolley ear at Kellogg some three months ago and badly hut not permanently hurt, was in Ceredo yesterday morning with T. Me K. Hays, of the Camden Interstate, and the damage was compromised by Mr. Hays leaving with the First National Bank of Ceredo a draft of ♦2f>0. for Mr. Jessie. The com promise was satisfying to all con cerned. Strike in Lumber Mill. A strike took place Monday morn ing at the big lumber mill of J. W. Mahan, in North Catlettsbifg. The manager employed two non-union men on the yard and as soon as they went to work nearly the entire force of about seventy-five men walked out. The latter were immediately given their time and were paid off. This closes the mill, and it looks as if a strike of indefinite length is on. Williamson** New Court House. The new court house of Mingo county, which has been in course of construction for some time, is now completed and for the first time the sessions of the circuit court will be held in the new building. The cost of the hand some structure is t<42,408. —- — - Railwau Conductors to Meet. Pittsbi*bo, May 12.—The Bien nial convention of the order of rail way conductors begins ten days' session here tomorrow.
