ft Kenova Man Passes Worth
less Paper Upon Saloon
Men at Portsmouth.
Portsmouth, Sept. 14.—Worth
less checks were passed on saloon
keepers John Garrison and Kudy
Kount/., by a Kenova, W. Va.,
business man, who formerly res ded
; here and who still has relatives in
I Portsmouth.
The discovery was made hy Kudy
Kount/. and he promptly called his
man to time, and upon the latter's
urgent appeals to save him from
falling into the clutches of the law,
kept the matter quiet. Garrison,
however, did not learn that he had
been duped until he sent the check
to the First National Hank. He
was astonished to learn that the man
had never had an account there.
Friday evening lie was quite reliev
ed upon receiving a letter from hi in
dated Kenova, in whieh he explain
ed all and promised he would make
good the amount.
The fellow came to Garrison with
a hard luck story. He needed mon-1
ey and that hadly. Garrison, ever
accomodating, agreed to cash his
check. The amount was not very
large but sufficient to answer the
man’s wants and he left the place
light-hearted and happy, lie is a
total abstainer and did not stop to
spend even tive cents with his new
ly found friend in need. He is be
lieved to he a gambler, however,
and is thought to have dropped a
big roll in a local poker room.
