day to day, not to exceed twenty-five
days, for the purpose of hearing the
complaint of any tax-paver as to the as

the assessor.
It is the duty of the Board to reduce
the value of property if it is assessed too
high and to increase it if it is assessed too
low. and this may be done upon the mo
iton of any tax-payer interested or upon
the Board's own motion.
Any assessment not contested before
the Board becomes final upon the
Board’s adjournment.

I Another Old Veteran Gone;
David Pack, mod ?8, u resident of
Mill creek, this county, died from it
hemorrhage while inspecting the mill
of Gwinn Bros, at Huntington. .June 15
The remains were taken to his home
near Cassville and interred.
Mr. Back served as a member of the
r ifth W. Va. Vol. infantry in rh>- Union
army during the civil war. His death
is regretted very much hy a large circle
of friends iu this vicinity.

New Pt. Pleasant Brldoe.
I he new K. <fc M. bridge across
the Ohio river at Pt. Pleasant has
been opened. The structure, to
gether with the new approach, two
and a half miles in length, repre
sents a *750,000 improvement.
The climbing of a sixty-foot ele
vation above the mam track which
required the services of a helping
engine and compelled nearly all
coal trains to lie cut in two, is
done away with. The K. & M.
can now handle as largo trains as
other divisions of the Hocking
Valley system. It is expected
that this route will bo the lake
outlet for the Virginian railway.

Holden, the model mining town of
Logan county, is to be dry once more
after the first of .July. The county
court of JjOgan county has positively re
fused to consider the application of the
management of the one saloon at Hol
den, much to the delight of the tem
perance element in Logan connty.
I ho Holden saloon has been conducted
on a remarkable plan. Only the em
ployees of the Island Creek Fuel com
pany were permitted to drink or pur
chase liquor there. For a time travel
ing salesmen were admitted but lately
even they have been excluded.
