This puts all the Dickson teachers to work. O. (’. Dick, our poultry man, has caught and killed twelve hawks this fall. He caught thirty-eight hawks la-t year. The poultry peo ple of this vicinity should each give him a hen for this service. A certain young man of this neighborhood, who works on the public roads, sometimes, always smokes while fixing the powder and dynamite for a blast. Some of these days he will go up like Elijah, only altogether different. I’ll re poit this accident as soon as it occurs. I think it will be a warn ing to other fools. Ira Smith wants to find a breed of turkeys that w ill both worm and sucker tobacco. His turkeys.worm tobacco all right but they will not take the suckers off. On the trains ap ■ proach to the yard, an employe in changing switches, made a mistake and threw the wrong one. The train was approaching the yard at a rate of speed of about 33 miles an hour amt instead of continuing down the main line was headed down on the “V,” which is used for turning trains. The engineer immediately saw he was on the wrong track and threw* the air into emergency. \\ bile the speed of the train was checked to some extent, still it was only when the engine humped against the “dead man,” at the end of the “Y,1 that it came to a stop. 1 he stop ,was tco sudden, for the engine was turned across the track, and the “dead man,” or bumper, torn from its position. I'heengineer and fireman escap ed by jumping. McKee was the recipient of several handsome presents. Among those present were: Floyd McKee and family; Albert McKee and daughter; Cba*. McKee and wife; Estill McKee and family; Mr. and Mrs. Raleigh Font/, and daughter, of Jrontor:, Ohio; Ilenry Adkins and wife, Ed and Frank Adkins, of Ceredo; Mr. and Mrs. Waller Adkins and family, of Blue Held; A. Mr. Rpauldin# is a successful busi ness man and will prove a val uable member of the county court. WAYNE COUNTY LADY SECURED $5,000 Damages Against a Street Car Company at East Liverpool, Ohio. Miss Gertrude Gilkerson, who I formerly resided near Gilkerson, this county, has secured a judgment for five thousand dollars damages against a traction company at Hast j Liverpool, Ohio. About three years ago Miss Gil* kerson went to Hast Liverpool to visit an aunt. While there she was out driving and in going down an incline a street car ran into tier buggy. She was injured severely about the body, some of the in juries making her a cripple for life* She brought suit against the company and t^e ease was tried in the federal court at Cleveland. The action was for eight thousand dol lars damages and the jury rendered a verdict accordingly. On a tech, nicality the trial judge set the ver dict aside and awarded Miss Gilker sou five thousand dollars. I»y consent of the plaintiff and defendant the case will be retried and the attorneys for the ladv hope to secure the full amount originally sued for. Attorney* representing Miss Gil ker-on have been in thin county during the past week taking deposi tions of varioiiH parties and will use the proof thus secured at the com ing trial.
