KENOVA NEWS Personal Mention of Peo ple Whom You Know and Don't Know. Mrs. B. Burleson was a recent -visitor at the Gate City. Mrs. J. McClure of South Point is visiting relatives here. Mrs. R. A. Morris visited friends at Huntington Wednesday. Daniel Geygan is off duty on ac count of an abscess on his arm. Mrs. Jennie Percival, who has bfjpn indisposed this week, is better. Mrs. liUcian Queen wan a visitor at Catlettsburg the tirst of the week. J. G. Lambert transacted busi ness at Portsmouth one day last week. W. W, Jackson was a business caller at Huntington the tirst of the week. City Attorney William Lovin transacted business at Wayne last Tuesday. Mrs. D. C. Staten spent a few hours with friends at Huntington last Friday. Mrs. C. F. Mercer left Monday for a few days’ visit with relatives in Virginiat Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Salmons spent a lew days last week with friends at Louisa. Airs. T. J. Pal well and Mr*. R. E. Partlow were visitors at Ashland recently. Airs. Al. E. (Adkins is having a new building erected on her prop erty on Pine street. Airs. Chat. Damron has been quite ill for the past several days with an attack of bronchitis. 1'he ladies of Kenova are organ izing a “social hour club” on the order of a Kensington. Airs. Louise Lambert, who has been quite sick for several weeks, is reported much improved. Mrs. F. W. Pinson of Quaker has been the pleasant guest of Mrs. Ezra Hall for the past few days. U. G. Parsley has returned from a business trip to various points in Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York. Airs. Reuben Osbnrn was num bered among the sick a few days last week with an attack of tbegiip. i he smiling face of the genial and gentlemanly John A. Greear of Hluetield was recently seen on our streets. Airs. W. P. Slaughter has re turned to her home at Cincinnati after a pleasant visit here with her .sister, Mrs. Jennie Duncan. The Hillside Bible class met with Airs. S. O. Wood last week. The meeting today will be held at the home of Mrs. Joseph Mantel. Much moving is a sure harbinger of spring as well as the song of the robin. We know it is here and the way people are ‘ swapping” houses is a sight to see in a city the size of Kenova. J he streets of otir city show' a great improvement after the thor ough cleaning which took place last week. May this work continue as nothing improves a town so much as clean streets and alleys. 'Hie manner in w hich the local city and state authorities aro enforc ing the Prohibition law speaks well for those officials. City Marshal Ferguson is always casting his weather eye about for bootleggers and other violators. John Acher has been laid up for the past lew days with a carbuncle on his neck. Mrs. J. H. Hardin and Mrs. H. II. Cyrus were shopping at Ir. onion oue day last week. J. G. Lambert entertained his Sunday School class of the Baptist church in a very pleasant manner at Lambert’s hall last Friday evening. The Boy Scouts gave an enter tainment at the ciiy hall Mouday evening that was a decided success in every particular. The people showed their appreciation ol the boys’efforts by tilling the ball to its capacity. Deputy Sheriff Rife of Catletts burg, catcher for for the Gate City base ball team, is reported dangerously ill at hie home iu the Gate City from pneumonia. He has many admirers iu Kenova who trust his recovery may be speedy aud permanent. 'I he delivery team owned by Ferguson Brothers of Ceredo ran away ou Twelfth street, this place, Wednesday afternoon and slightly injured the driver, Tobe Rigg. Oue of the wheels ran into the curb and threw Mr. Rigg onto the pavement. He was pick ed up - nd tak^n home and medical assistance given him.
