Another subscriber at I'nion, Monroe

get to hi« post office the next day. A dif- '
ference of 24 hours iu favor of the New ;
Tork papers as against the subscriber's
own State paper. We might say a great ;
many hard things about this apparent dis
crimination between foreign and home en
terprise, bat it would be using j
valuable space to no purpose. How- !
ever, we cannot let the opportunity
pass without saying that every merchant
and manufacturer in the city surfera to a
greater or leas degree for want of better
and quicker mail facilities. The conspic
uous tact that a letter or paper from New
York ft»n reach Wirt Conrt House as quick
is can mail matter from Wheeliag, is a con
dition of thing« over which the average
person doing business in West Virginia,
must feel considerable chagrin. New
York is about .>00 or äöO milea as the bird
die«, from Wirt count v, while Wheeling is
little over lot). While iMonroe county is
on the opposite tide of the State, and the
mails from Wheeling reach it by a circuit
oca route, still there Joes not seem to
, be any good reason why the mails from
New York should reach any post odise cf our
own state 24 hours ahead of the Wheeling
mails. If the postal authorities will
inve3tiga*e this matter a little bit, surely
an improvement in tiuia lor the benetit of
Whealing, will tollow.

amount of werk expended the results are

but the probability is that his money give«
oat lose before he get* a hundred feet,
and his hole may hare in sight hundred«
of tons of ore that run hundred« of
dollars to the too, but he does not hare
enough money to make an assay. Now
and then use hits it near the surface, but
the richest deposits lay deep down. What
wealth your gaa derrick might develop.
To-day the boys are all out in the moun
tains, west of here aud at Kingston, run
cine down the Indian«. The U. S. troop«,
nuliiia and volunteer citizens are trying to
corral them. There does not seem to be
many, but there are, and they bave beea
prowling around all summer and killing and
shooting now and theu. They shot a man
at Frazier's cabin, on Iron Creek, four
mile« west of Kingston, last Sunday, when
passing through, acd some others have not
been heard from, as it baa been dangerous
to look around for about two week*.

acd came in on Sue day morning, a little
earlier tlan they expected. It was well
they did. as the Indiai.s crossed their trail
a short time after they got io.
It is to be hoped that this is the last of
the Indians. General Crook and Gofercor
Roes are doing all in their power to exter
minate them. Crook does not seem to
have the fire of his youth, when he used to
co-operate with Phil. Sheridau, but he
seems to be aroused now, and Governor
