One of the most exciting contests in Clarks burg was the establishing of the grade of the new extension of Fourth street, leading to the new Baltimore & Ohio railroad. The question has been dis-v cussed, and for same time under con sideration by the Council. It was a par ticularly interesting question in as much as there is a project to bridge Elk Creek near the points where the route of the proposed Short Line rail road is located. Consequently these respective in ?rests seemed opposed to each othei I »e Council, however, has established a grade for the street, less than five degrees, whereby the pro posed level of the bridge bed of the road dropped down two feet, gives a clearance of nineteen feet, and what is termed an overhead crossing, so that the ears etc., can pass under the bridge. | AMONG THE POSTMASTERS.
