Interesting Reply to Attack on Uni V«r»rty Frofeooor—Methods and Work of Law School Explained. The following reply of Dean Hogg to cnslclsms of the College of lx* at the State University la reprinted by request. It appeared first la the Uni versity Athenaeum: To the Kdltor of the Athenaeum An article appeared In the Atben * arum of January 20th Imputing to the College of I .aw grave defects tn meth ods of Instruction, want of discipline and decorum on the part of the stu dent body, and lack of adequate fa cilities to enable the student to prose cute his studies. The author of the article registered in this college only last fall, and is a neophyte In the pur suit of professional knowledge, but. as the source of this emanation, seri ously reflecting on one of the depart ments of the university, is not known to the readers of the Athenaeum, we are constrained to review it and cor rect some of the errors into which lta 1 author has unwittingly fallen. The contribution under considera tion to the organ of the students of the university is an extended one. and embodies fourteen distinct charges against the College of l-aw of ineffi ciency properly to effectuate the work for which It ia designed. If these be true, those in charge of our university, having Its supervision and control in hand, have signally and shamefully failed to discharge their duties to a large body of students and to meet their responsibilities to the people of our state. An examination Into the truth of j these criticisms is therefore not only due to me department Immediately affected, but to all persons in any man ner connected with live supervision1 of the affairs of the whole institution ' We shall make this examination In a spirit of fairness and candor, free from all bias or or prejudice, with a Jusi endeavor to fully present the con-1 ditiona now prevailing in the College of I-aw.
