"MARKET TURKS OVBR_AT CLOSE Dull Day la Last Few Hew* Inuia Aattwa With Mm Reas* NKW TORkThII^^r.—For tha t r^mtar part of today’s session on tha Stock exchange business wgs dull and prica* Irregalar. except for mantpul af »t ion la some of. the minor specialties and low priced issues la Um last hour, however, the market reversed Its position and broadened out under lead of the speculative favorttiea, eoine of which went to n new high level for the present movement, while Amalgamated copper sold at Its high est price la considerably over, a yeaer. Thera was no news to account for the sudden change of n sentiment other than the prospects of n general ad vance In prices of Iron and steel pro ducts and encouraging advices deal ing with crop conditions. The gener al labor situation at home and abroad was without material change exoept for some betterment In the New Eng land mill towns. It la not unlikely that the argeement of the flnance com. inlttea to report adversely on the house steel and metal schedule also was s helpful faafor. Activity was maintained until the end, the business of the rest of the session with closing prices at or near the top. In connection with the further rise of the specialties, there we«e rumors of Increased dividend disbursements, but for the most part these were ac J* cepted with reserve. It was well (g^nown that some of the minor indus trial companies are in better shape fthan a* year ago. while others are in far less satisfactory condition. There were grain specific reasons tor the further advance of such stocks as International Harvester, the cop pers and American Smelting. Semi official statements indicated that Har vester’s disintegration will soon be an nounced and the copper industry con tinues to work in the direction of high er prices for the metal. Increased strength In American Telephone and Telegraph was concurrent with re W Ports of a demand for the stock In Paris, where It is listed on the Bourse. Bonds were active, but reflected little of the stock market’s strength, except in Erles. Total sales par value $3,408,000, U. S. government Is advanced one eighth per cent on call.
