Among: active shares the only not worthy. and In most Instances tempor ary. gains were made hy coppers, util ities and several of the junior oils, equipments and food specialties, with the usual sprinkling of miscellaneous issues. Leaders were subjected to a series of raids In the last hour, llullman. Haskell and Barker. aftllllated equipments ami several of the shippings and I'-ath-rs displaying most unsettlonient. Support ing orders In United States steel and other standard stocks effected partial re ooveries at the confused close. Sales amounted to 735,000 shares General advices over the week end were of a piece with the market's hest-? tant movements. Business gains at western centers were neutralized by further declines In railroad tonnage, im portant loadings showing decreases of 10 to 30 percent.
